SK released by the Nets to make room for Jahlil Okafor / Nik Stauskas.

Maybe he'll be picked up by a contender - go get a ring, Sean!

RE: Kilpatrick released
bottom line....he's a kid who came out of high school as a three star recruit and redshirt frosh at UC and ended up playing in the NBA and making more money than the average UC grad along the way. Even if he never plays again, he fulfilled his dream and did more than 95% of other college basketball players. Some NBA careers are long and fruitful and others are short and not so much. But either way, if you play in the NBA, you made it. Hats off to him. I hope he has some good fall back/business plans if it doesn't work out. He will always be a great Bearcat.

Doubt he will need those fallback plans for awhile. He has the talent to play overseas for quite some time.

I know the Nets ducked last year, but wasn't he averaging about 15 a game. You'd think there'd be a spot some where in the league for him some where else.

Didn't go overseas before. i doubt he does that now. His immediate future is the G-League but i think there might be too much supply of his caliber for him to land on a roster anywhere. When Tyler Johnson got his contract and SK got so little comparatively, it made a statement of his relative value in the L. i am obviously pulling for him but i don't know if he does anything more then fill rosters going forward.

He has played too well for someone to not pick him up. I don't think he will be an FA for long. Probably just a bench guy that may not play much, but you never know. He could find himself in a rotation as he has really come on the last couple seasons to turn himself into an effective player.

I mean, that's what he was...he was just a casualty of the roster cap. Someone will take a flier, but he won't get many minutes, he's a slightly below average shooter at position with defensive downside and not a whole lot of positives to his game that are above replacement level. All in all, he had a great career and had his moment with his hometown team...something millions of people dream of and could never in a million years achieve.

RE: Kilpatrick released
Anyone recall if he finished his degree at UC before going pro? If he doesn't want to go overseas and play I could see him moving into the college coaching ranks and working his way up--maybe on Mick's staff.

He's got a fully guaranteed contract this year so he got paid. I suspect he will get picked up by someone.

SK was here for 5 years. There should be no reason that he did not finish a degree.

Hard to imagine a guy earning it like Kilpatrick did. He basically forced himself onto an NBA roster and took advantage while he was there. He has some limitations, but he's gotten every bit he could out of himself and has had a real career as an NBA player. Special man, great Bearcat.

I don't think he'll get picked up. He was good for the Nets last year, starting 24 games and averaging 13 points.

But this year he's only shooting 29% from the floor (down from 42% last year). As a result, he's only playing averaging 11 minutes and 4 points per game. His advanced metrics are down too:

Player Efficiency Rating dropped from 15.6 2 years ago, to 13.1 last year, to 5.4 this year (for this metric, 16.5 to 18 = 3rd offensive option; 13 to 15 = average player in rotation who doesn't start; players below 9 should be cut)
Win Shares went from 1.4 to -0.4
Plus/Minus per 100 possessions went from -3.0 to -9.1

I think your cause and effect is backwards here. The Nets lineup was stacked with scoring guards and SK has barely played since the beginning of the season. imo his stats are more a reflection of his lack of playing time (and thus forcing things/not getting comfortable) than his playing time a product of his stats.

I'd give this year a chance to see if he's claimed otherwise i'd head overseas. Younger guys with Nba experience can get 7 figure deals over there and the clock is ticking. It doesn't preclude you from coming back. Take the money while you can.

He has a clothing line, his own signature shoe with And1 and he opened a juice bar. He’s been investing in his future outside of basketball.
