Yes the media has done it. The media that decided they had the right to decide what we would be called.
This is the unfortunate truth. Generally speaking though, from what I've seen it is rarely if ever done to be punitive or vindictive (IMO). It is more shorthand, appropriate or not.
Back in the '90's when us and App were in the Southern Conference with Marshall, the Huntington media would frequently refer to the Mountaineers as Appy knowing it got under their skin.
Trust me, no one at Georgia Southern is wild about seeing GASO as the ESPN mnemonic. But if all the Eagle fans lost their %$&^%$ over it then everyone would be plugging their posts with GASO right and left.
Nah, I'd probably use GASOles. (I keed) (Ya, see the "h" is not only silent, it's invisible)
Most of us are pretty reasonable, especially when you meet us.
I've always said (and you can look this up) if you can't call me what I ask, then at least use CAJUNS. It's never the wrong answer.
That's pretty good, have to chuckle at that.
I have met plenty of great Cajun fans this past year at the baseball tournament, had hoped to make it out for the football game but plans fell through.
Hoping to make it out west for the baseball series this year.
And BTW, on my messageboard I have had your school board linked as "Louisiana" ever since I became aware of the name request. We try to be polite for the most part
I have to confess it took some time to warm up to you GS guys. Starting out, the App guys were much easier to get. But with us, it's like we're the old dog on the porch and here comes this super high energy puppy. You know how well those start out. But I appreciate your fan's passion and energy and that's something that we absolutely have in common.
Hope you do make it out for baseball at Russo Park at the Tigue, it is as gorgeous as the renderings and a first rate facility. A lot of thought went into its design, for example, when you head to the concession stand, you still have a full view of the field.

Does mudbug season ever go late/early enough for football season. I need to get down there the next time App plays in Lafayette. God bless the Cajuns.

It's usually early spring to late May. So, baseball/softball season.

So delicious. My First Sergeant would bring them to Little Rock from somewhere in La and boil coolers full.... God I miss them.

The Cajuns play in Statesboro during the regular season (in fact, it's the conference opener.)
But for the tournament, we'll try not to have quite as much rain as we had in Statesboro last year. (But if we do, the turf will help.)

I was thinking tournament, not the series. Not sure why I typed that.
Yeah, the rain was ridiculous.

Where has Jaluke been coaching? His greatest contribution while he was at Tech was his recruiting in the New Orleans area. We signed several very good players from that area while he was with us. This could prove to be a very good hire for you guys. It'll depend on how well he's maintained his connections at the high schools in that area. We'll see.

Based on the following article from a year ago, I'd say it's safe to say Jaluke still has his connections to New Orleans.
Quote:New Orleans area coaches considering boycott against LSU
NEW ORLEANS — Is LSU close to losing one of its most fertile recruiting grounds within the state?
That might be what ultimately occurs on Thursday evening when several of the New Orleans Metro area high school football coaches gather to discuss a potential boycott of the LSU Tigers football program.
Several of the area’s black head football coaches are meeting to discuss how coach Ed Orgeron handled the demotion of running backs coach and New Orleans area recruiter Jabbar Juluke in the aftermath of National Signing Day.
Juluke, who was responsible for landing 3-star wide receiver Racey McMath and securing the commitments of 4-star quarterback Lowell Narcisse, 3-star tailback Clyde Edwards-Helaire and 3-star athlete Jontre Kirklin, was reassigned within the football program on Feb. 2, the day after signing day.
