RE: UAB vs auburn
Even with the 2 guys out, Pearl has accumulated (bought) enough talent that it would take a near perfect game for us to have a chance on the road in front of the crowd we will face.

But, its a good game to prepare for conference play. We probably wont face another crowd that big or team that good the rest of the year.

Lets be honest, if AU was in CUSA they would be prohibitive favorites to win the league.

The troy game was practically useless. It was essentially a neutral court game.

We have to schedule better teams in the preconference. I mean no game against anyone expected to have an RPI below 200 for our buy games.
And top 100 for home & home types.

For some strange reason I think we will play well. Could be that I bleed green and gold and always think we have a chance.

I'm afraid I used up a decade's worth of passion rallying the ever faithful, ever loyal to defeat Ray Watts.

For I must tell you, my brother, that a vile den of fraud, cheating and federal indictments like Auburn is not worthy of a truly rousing speech. We're talking about Auburn. True Blazers, we who stood in the streets to defeat the Bryant Bank cabal, do not fear Auburn.

For we have a program founded by Gene Bartow. The first program in this state to advance beyond the Sweet Sixteen. The only program in this state - and one of just 16 out of 330 - to have never been placed on NCAA probation. For anything. We certainly don't fear Auburn.

For the world is full of Auburns. The posers, who want to bypass the hard work, the years of toil, that are needed to build anything worthwhile. If the watchword in Tuscaloosa is, "ask Daddy to buy it for you," then that of Auburn is, "I know a guy."

There will always be an Auburn. There will always be someone who thinks they can cut corners, that they can buy themselves an edge in a brown paper bag. Whether it's corrupt players or illegal enhancements or criminal coaches. They have always existed. We have always defeated them.

We are unlike any other fanbase on this planet. We don't root for the laundry, or even for our degrees. Other fans sing about how they "fight." We actually do it. We have stared down evil and defeated it. And so we certainly don't fear the Auburns of the world.

Belief matters. Belief brings victory where defeat seems certain. Only the weak-minded and noodle-spined predict their own defeat. And why? Does it feel better afterwards to say, "See, I was right! I am a cowering craven, afraid to take what is mine."

So no, my brother, Auburn is not worth a rousing speech. The Blazer Happy Bus might jounce a little on 280, because a tiger is a pretty lumpy form of roadkill, but it is roadkill all the same.

This will be a win... it may take a few months/years for us to realize that it was a win... but when they have to go back and forfeit wins for paying to play players, this will show up as a W.

We should be playing Auburn's non-conf schedule:

Dayton, Winthrop, Temple, UCONN, Indiana State, Murray State, George Mason, etc...we are content to load up on cupcakes and win 20 something games and sit at home in the post season...somebody has to hold feet to the fire and start playing a REAL non-conf schedule...if that means 2 for 1's or just becoming road warriors at times then so be it

We knew we were sitting home at the end of the season if we didn't win the CUSA tournament before the season started.

Nothing new.

It means a lot to have a somewhat reasonable win loss record when fans of a larger school are evaluating a coach to throw millions at.

A P5 team can put together a schedule much more easily than we can. A better example would be MTSU. Why can't we play a schedule like that?

And he should play, he a pretty good player.

Players on the bench are like tools in your tool box. You may not need them every day or for every job. But you should know how to utilize every one of them when the need arises.

If Wiley plays and Auburn gets us into a slow paced walk it up 55-52 ballgame where Wiley is the main focus of their attack, then Smallwood should play until he fouls out. Neither Cokley or Haha are big enough to guard him. Cokely gives up 4" and Haha 55 lbs., so we have to double team him. That leaves a shooter open, and we're beat.

And this goes for any team we play with a quality big man.

I think it has something to do with your team GPA. And you can have some guys do poorly if you have others that make up for it. So, the first thing they look for with walk ons is their GPA.

This is speculation on my part because they sure don't need 5-6 walk ons.

Similar to their football program & their cohort school in crime, they stash tokens on the team to make everyone feel like they are a part of the program.
We all know they are just taking up space & being used to get daddy's donations, but nonetheless that is the deal.
You see players from Mountain Brook, Vestavia, etc. on the team.
