Was thinking of going to Cheli's before the game if there are a lot of NIU fans going there.

Best price/proximity combo I could find on SpotHero is a couple blocks away, that was $20 for a day.

Originally looked at airfare from Phoenix to Detroit and at around $571 thought I would enjoy the game from the comfort of home.

Airfare to Chicago is $73 on Christmas Day. Can use frequent flyer miles to get home.

Haven't looked at the car rental yet, but saw that parking in Detroit was around $30 per day.

Parking at MGM Casino is free. How safe is it to walk from MGM Casino to the Westin Hotel?

Going to spend my free time in the MGM poker room anyways.

Driving up with Wife on game day and staying at Westin Tuesday night. Not going to pre game reception but will go to Cheli's before game.

Renaissance is really clean IMO and very very nice. I looked forward going there each year compared to other hotels I've been to. The lounge area is one of the better I've been to out of any hotel. If you are interested in cars at all, they have all of the new GM models at the bottom floor (pretty cool to see) and the tram picks up directly at the hotel.

The one stop is about maybe a mile at most from the stadium. Not a bad walk and go basically by Chelis.

I agree with the above comments. The Renaissance is very nice. Not sure the walk to Ford Field is even as much as mile from the people mover stop.

For the MACC many NIU fans go to Cheli's. The fans that go to Cheli's typically are the people who don't go to the Alumni Association events. So there will probably be NIU fans at Cheli's if you go.

Have fun everyone - we can't make it as we experienced our 4th major appliance breakdown for 2017 so there is no extra $$ for a trip.

Westin website says valet parking is free.

Will be there, will be a Cheli's before the game!!!

Will be there with HMM and NiuCoils. Probably Town Pump for lunch followed by Chelis

I stayed there last year and I want to say it was like $30. Billed directly to room. I think they parked like 2 blocks away. They were pretty fast. You can give em a call.

This will be my first NIU bowl game trip; curious how much NIU merchandise is available to purchase. Wanted to pick up some stuff for the family and didn’t know if I should order stuff online now.

I hope you all have a great time in Detroit. I have been there for all of the Huskies MCC appearances. I will be having Christmas with my family in Maine from Christmas Eve until the 28th. I have to be back by the 29th to get my final paycheck when my job shuts down. Even if I had the funds, and I could scrape them up if I needed to, I just could not fit a bowl game on the 26th in with my vacation plans without alienating family or inlaws.

I have some good job leads, so hopefully, I will not be living like Bruce Banner* in '18, like I have been this year.

Tangent: the wandering do-gooder (usually loner, but then the A-Team happened) TV show needs to come back. Kung Fu, Hulk, the Fugitive.

It's a pretty good trope, works with a procedural format. Could do it in a more serialized way as well, season to season instead of episode to episode.

Hopefully going well. I saw Detroit Lions legend tweet that people should hurry and get there tickets. With the help of the Detroit Lions marketing should be a good crowd.

Get the feel that Duke fans will travel well...... as they haven’t been to a ton of bowl games and aren’t jaded.

I receiced an email from athletics this afternoon that said there is only 250 tickets left in our allotment... no idea what that means or how many we were given.

That’s a good sign. We can also buy and donate tickets for people that can’t physically be there....
