I understand the commentary and response after his bowl comments earlier this week...he was obviously too blunt with that response. My comment was more directed toward the point that as far as I can tell he's been perfectly fine as far as other media responsibilities...he's fine with pre-game/in-game interviews, does a fine job on the radio show, does a fine job on other radio interviews, etc. 99.9% of football coaches aren't going to give you Lane Kiffin theatrics. Does anyone think Bill Belichick or Gregg Popovich are media darlings?
Carey is a fairly young coach. I wish a reporter would ask him who his mentor is/was, and if he would even say anybody.
I kinda got the impression he has kinda been learning on the fly. Trial by error is never easy but he has improved.
I would like to hear who Carey considers a mentor also....good point legup.

This article about Carey as soon as he got the job talks about his rise a little bit. He played for Mallory at IU so i figured he would be a big mentor for Rod. Has some quotes from him in there too.

You're the one that explained how there were penalties, injuries and dragged out play right before your prime example of Carey being abrupt. He has been absolutely fine on the radio show and other obligations. If you or anyone else are getting bent out of shape about a football coaches on the field while running into the locker room halftime interview answers...well, yikes. If you want to criticize his interviews OFF THE FIELD then go for it. But while he's running into the locker room, it's 15 degrees and the game is going like ****?
It's ironic that the example I used, you assumed the penalties and injuries were NIU's, contributing to the game "going like ****". No, there were stoppages due to both teams, the opponent was using timeouts hoping to score again and didn't, it wasn't 15 degrees, and there have been other games with the Huskies ahead and he's given your stock answers. He's inconsistent just like his "off the field" interviews. Obviously you're not willing to acknowledge Carey is sorely lacking when it comes to interviews even though he's not as bad as before, so I suggest you or Carey tell STF not to waste his precious time having to answer "dumb questions" from the home network or not cooperate with the TV folks either leaving the field or returning. That requirement certainly has less of an impact than all the midweek games which makes the MAC non-existent on November Saturdays. Again, if neither you or Carey can recognize the poor image he often projects, then yikes, explain why no one has come after him for a coaching vacancy?

Interesting article, Thank you. Even he admits how fast things went for him so it does kinda imply he might
have been learning a bit on the fly. It would be interesting to know if he ever spoke or sought advice from
Mallory or any other head coach.

He has often mentioned that he regularly talks with coach Novak.
