Good job Temple.

Need more days like this one, semi-quiet 3-0. No clunkers and a decent win thrown in.

That's exactly what we wanted. We're tired of games decided in the first 5 minutes when we're already leading by 15. We want our new conference mates to bring it every night and challenge us, and we all know that means we're going to lose our fair share.

The Temple games are going to be great and we're all looking forward to them. Until then, keep kickin' ass in the noncon.

RE: 12/6 AAC Basketball Games
We were tested in the MVC from time to time, let's not be silly now. Just a couple weeks ago we were seriously wondering if the AAC was going to be a step up in difficulty this year (Don't believe me? Check the early season threads). The pendulum has now swung in the opposite direction and things are looking up.

I hate the MVC just as much as the next Shocker fan, but even in our last year, we still had to play well to win (We were just that good). I still think the odds that the AAC is going to be shocked by the Shockers is far greater than the Shockers being shocked by the AAC. College basketball is mostly hype; the difference between the #75 team and the #25 team is far less than people want to admit. It simply comes down to effort and the Shockers have the effort category covered.

MVC upsets in 2017-2018

Indiana St. 90 @ Indiana 69
Illinois St. 69 - S. Carolina 65
Drake 77 - Wake Forest 74
UNI 61 - SMU 58
MSU 77 - CSU 67
Valp 72 - Utah St. 65
UNI 77 - UNLV 68
Illinois St. 65 - Tulsa 58
MSU 73 @ S. Dakota St. 53 ***impressive***
Loyola 65 @ Florida 59

RE: 12/6 AAC Basketball Games
the problem for the MVC is while they may get some good games- their overall SOS isn't good...

for the 7 teams that have any shot of an at large in AAC- Wichita, Cincy, SMU, Temple, Houston, UCF, and UConn- avg OOC SOS for those 7 is 121.57. With 2 in the top 20, and then 2 others in the top 100. The MVC has 7 teams with a chance according to RPI Forecast of finishing in the top 120 in RPI. only 2 are in the top 140 in OOC SOS- Northern Iowa at 6 and Illinois St at 32. So that's going to really hurt them in getting teams in the tourney.

A couple turd teams at the bottom of the MVC is going to kill everybody else. That's one of the secrets to the Church League sham - they don't have a single RPI killer in the league. Nobody but 'Nova is spectacular, but most everybody else is at least serviceable.

If we can get Tulane and ECU into the top 100 and keep them there permanently, the future will be very bright for the AAC.

*edit*

The Pee does have a turd and its name is Georgetown. One turd might be okay, two turds? No. You can raise a single turd but not a pair unless you have 20 good teams in your league.

RE: 12/6 AAC Basketball Games
I think Xavier is a pretty good team in the Big East. And Seton Hall- you don't want them in your bracket at all whatseover either. Creighton is a good team with some questions no doubt.

The thing with Georgetown is they aren't going to be the RPI killer that you think. They're going to go 10-1 with their cupcake schedule OOC. So teams will be adding in worst case 10-19's. While not great, it's not awful either. If Georgetown gets a few wins, they'll be still bad themselves in RPI- because of the home/away breakdown- but in the opponents part, it just takes into account your record- and not the modified record. So while Georgetown might if they go 2-16 with only 2 home wins in conference along with the 10-1 OOC record- the percentage added to teams 50% pot would be 12-17 or .414. But their own winning percentage would be 8-16.6 or .325. DePaul is much more of a threat to be a RPI bomb.

And the problem is that teams in the Big East are guaranteed to see those 2 teams 4x. Meanwhile, the AAC may very well have 2 teams worse than those teams- USF and ECU. But several teams only see them 2x. Not having the round robin is such a plus I think structurally.

I think a great game to watch to see Big East vs AAC is in a few weeks when Houston plays Providence....
