Congrats to BSU. A great win for our conference. Probably the most visible in years.

Great finish. ND ties it up with 12 seconds left on a 3 ptr. BSU wins it on a long 3.

You really think so? Are you basing that on any particular comparison?
Whitford went 5-25 and 7-23 with identical 2-16 MAC records in years one and two; then 21-14 and 21-13 to become MAC West Champs after 10-8 and 11-7 league records, with two CIT appearances in four seasons.
Of course, beating ND for a fourth straight win only makes Ball State 5-4 so far this year, so his career record is only 59-79. Last month the Muncie Star Press had a story that his salary was raised a whopping $10,000 from $286,083 to $296.083 and got an extension through 2021-22.

Now the Gators are on upset alert against Loyola-Chi. Loyola appears to be the REAL DEAL this year, wow.

Maybe more speculation than a certainty but he turned them around quickly and they will probably win 20 again this year. The improvement shows he can bring in talent and coach them up. They lost close games this year at Dayton and Bucknell. Bucknell seems better than their record I think. Ball state lost big to Oregon and Oklahoma which doesn't look good. Overall there are always at least 30 teams looking for coaches at the end of the year and I believe he's one of the lowest paid coaches in the MAC if not the lowest. I think some team will come calling and give him a raise.

Teams have their own long history of years either up and down. BSU has had years of considerable success in the past. Some schools find THAT GUY to pull teams out of ruts. Butler and VCU come to mind. The really good ones move up the ladder rather quickly given the number of schools fielding teams. NIU bball is in need of a tow truck like was joe novak.
Molinari 1989-91 (now assistant at Nebraska with many tours of duty including BSU) was our last tow truck winning MAC (14-2 w/l) and making dance. Just consider all the coaches between then and now who were unable to get the job done. More than 20 years in same rut is so frustrating and disappointing.
For many years it was blamed on outdated facility. Convo has had little impact on escaping the rut. Maybe the solution is to hire a coach from a foreign country who will bring with seven talented foreign players seeking a free education in America.

Have to take exception to Molinari as tow truck. Jim Rosborough recruited that group and I was personal friends with several players who despised Mo, but they played and won despite their coach. Plus Molinari was never committed to staying here because as he bitched "NIU's a football school." Brian Hammel came in and worked through NIU's transition from the Mid-Continent to the Midwestern Collegiate to the MAC, and he got burnt out mentally and physically.
You are right in saying the Convo has had little if any impact on the program. Your last suggestion is intriguing assuming the learning curve wouldn't be too much when it comes to a foreigner putting up with the maze of NCAA recruiting rules, the limitations of the MAC, and the politics of being a mid-major.

Bring in the Loyola coach.
