Fox Sports takes the BCS from ABC paying 20 million per game an increase of nearly 3 million per bowl PLUS the piggyback Championship game on a rotating basis. I thought there wasn't enough money to support 6 autobids and a fifth game? I thought the TV money had "all dried up"?
BCS official last week; "there will be no more than 7 auto-bids to the BCS."

ABC didn't think there was enough market-viability to support a 5th BCS game that won't have any impact on the National Championship, so I agree with them not wanting to spend the extra dough.

The next time Top Coog is right on anything it will be his first. Some people feel that the BCS Conferences will go to 5 but IMO that will never happen. If anything they will give out another bid to either the C-USA or MWC to hold off any threat of a lawsuit.

I suspect your last comment may prove prophetic in time. The easiest way to avoid litigation in 2008/09 will be to let the higher ranked team from either C-USA or the MWC get the auto bid into a BCS bowl. Ultimately, it'll be the "squeaky wheel" scenario.
Alternatively, a true playoff with about 16 teams will evolve.

What about that great OwlJacket versus Lauramac matchup? Of course, I guess we're also probably too huggy-kissy :rolltide: :rolltide: :rolltide:

I'd like to think that a playoff system will develop out of this, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Even if there is litigation they'll just expand the BCS bowls instead of a playoff system. I could see adding another BCS bowl and allowing conferences like C-USA and the Mountain West to compete in them before creating a playoff system.

Note the quote in my initial post about "no more than 7 auto bids". I think we are seeing initial signals that a move to add one more BCS conference is imminent. This would entrench the system and give it a super majority. I have my suspicions as to which conference would be the 7th.

[TopCoog]
I am going to Disneyland, that is before there is a major earthquake which causes it to fall into the ocean. The giant suck hole will cause all BE schools to be pulled in well. Then the BCS will disassemble and SMU will return to the power program that it once was.

I temporarily retired the goat in preparation for the upcoming UH-Rice basketball game (since I will be out of town and not able to talk an appropriate level of smack).
