RE: NEW stadium construction
It is becoming more and more clear with the passing time that we were not prepared for the move up. How is fbs football helping us in ways that fcs football couldn't besides the bi annual publicity on p5 shellackings.

RE: NEW stadium construction
I am just not buying that a 20,000 erector set is FBS standards. And sure, they can make promises of expansion in Phases 2 and 3 to make us feel better and sell us on a final number. But why would we believe them with their promises anymore? I was happy with 25,000 and a TED-like feel. Now it sounds like we get neither of those. Sad to keep comparing us to JMU, but they are still beating us when it comes to facilities. Yikes.

RE: NEW stadium construction
If phase 2 doesn't happen for another 10 years after this phase, we should just push the pause button and do it all at once. This incremental nonsense surely costs more.

This is perhaps the most disappointing news I have heard as a donor since I began. Whatever happened to Aim high? If this is our best option then we need to go back to the start and come up with some other options.

That is exponentially better than what we have, and as many have said, the outside (erector set look) is less important right now.

The capacity is disappointing, but if it is expandable, then that is acceptable as well.

HOWEVER, the assertion in the Pilot article that the reason we have so many empty seats is mostly attributable to the old stadium is simplistic at best, and likely the least important of a few factors.

While I cannot quantify this empirically, I believe that our gameday apathy is more of a combination of the conference and with that opponents we have little in common with, a less than exciting brand of football of late, and, I hate to admit this, not enough to play for at the end of the day ( eg; FCS playoffs).
A new stadium won't fix all that.
With the meteoric increase of the gap between P5 and G5, there will, IMO, need to be a restructuring, like say a G5 playoff.

This almost complete G5/P5 dichotomy, btw, is coming to basketball as well, albeit just slower.

Wow, someone on twitter made a great point. They waited until the day after signing day to let us and the recruits know that they will be playing in an inferior stadium that was promised. At least they are still being strategic.

There is something we are not being told. Clearly we are not finding any wealthy individuals or corporations to sign on.

Wondering what our 2016, 2017 and 2018 recruits were sold and what they think of this report.

Anyone have the original article from years back with renderings of a 30k+ waterfront state of the art stadium? Ladies an gentlemen, Wood Selig. Overpromise and incrementally underdeliver. Let's just go back to the CAA and try to get basketball in the A10.

Betcha we're getting something more like NSU than FAU. Fill in the corners with seats and add the gameday building to the end zone is what we're getting. It won't look anywhere near has nice as FAU.

I can't for the life of me find the article. It is like the VP wiped it off the internet.

RE: NEW stadium construction
I think some of the "game day apathy" problem is that the stadium is filled with OLD money (in more ways than one). The problem with 20,000 is we are not growing any new donors, we are not giving them the opportunity to buy seats, nor any motivation to want to buy seats / donate.

This really feels like we are tearing down an uncomfortable old building with lots of character, but can only afford to replace it with a (potentially smaller) slightly more comfortable set of bleachers.

Compliments of the JMU board.

Cheap design with less seats? What a disappointment. Not a fan at all of FAU's stadium, looks cheap.

RE: NEW stadium construction
NSU stadium I believe has greater capacity and may continue to look nicer other than the gameday building. The more I think about it, maybe we need to stop and regroup to be sure this is done right. Seems like it's spinning out of control in a downward spiral. Only 6th largest capacity and maybe only 6th nicest in state. Meanwhile we talk like we should be competing with UVA. The fanbase has a right to be confused and disappointed. Perhaps the admin just needs to be honest with us. Maybe there is a way we can help.

Based on recent posts, might as well change this to the "Fire Wood Selig" thread (which I sort of now find myself supporting).

Exactly... Might as well add to the character than tear it down for what they're suggesting. Give me the scoreboards, end zone seating and press box. Save the rest of the money to go towards facilities (IPF). Throw some lipstick on it like field shrubs, brick retaining wall, ivy, etc. and call it a day. Wow, just wow... Did I mention I was very disappointed?

RE: NEW stadium construction
I don't blame them for following FAUs stadium model. I understand the cost constraints. But the further downsizing of the new stadium screams laziness to me. They can blame the trending of fan attendance all they want. But I just see a group that is content with the current fans showing up and not actually putting in the work to grow it.
