RE: NEW stadium construction
Well, now wait. I'm not happy with this news either... but I get the feeling we're going to be getting some better seats and a better stadium design out of this. More than just bathrooms and concessions.

But I do agree, it is disappointing to see how much this project keeps getting scaled back.

Exactly. The TED is a bargaining chip. It is what sets ODU apart from all other schools at our level. If we cannot make something similar happen then this is a waste of money. It needs to be top notch or it needs to die.

I won't be mad if we get this:

and

But replace that (south? not sure orientation) end zone bleacher with the game day building.

Wood Selig - one giant broken promise after another. When will Broderick grow some balls and end this nightmare reign?

took a quick FAU shot and overlayed a rendering with similar angle of the game day building.

I wouldn't be mad either, because that's what 30,000 looks like. We would get 2/3 of that.

Right. It's a total destruction of an existing concrete structure from 1936. That cost $. We all know the financial constraints were under. We come up with the extra money to support the additional seating we'll get it.

RE: NEW stadium construction
I know this is the understatement of the century, but building the right stadium is kind of a big deal. We keep shrinking and losing little details that matter. Sad day today.

It also reads in the article like we wouldn't have the press box either...

RE: NEW stadium construction
I keep thinking at some point they are going to surprise us with a nice complete stadium design with a new scoreboard, end zone, suites and press box... because that is what we need. Unfortunately the news just gets worse and worse. At ibrand new our stadium may be only the fifth nicest in the state. Seriously, do it right or don’t do it at all.

What if we don't come up with the extra money? I thought they were fundraising and telling everyone we would get 25,000 seats with seatbacks. Then that number became 22,000. Now it's 20,000. Just a bad trend. And I wonder if 20,000 seats is even the FBS facility we are trying to achieve.

Yep. FAUs stadiumm with one third less capacity, no nice end zone, no press tower and no nice scoreboard. Ughhhhh

RE: NEW stadium construction
The article also reads as if there will be a second and third phase years down the line. I wonder what those phases would entail since it appears no new scoreboard, student section renovation or press box will be part of the updated Phase I. I'm guessing that's when we'll get all the other stuff, including the second deck. Also, what happens to the extra money budgeted if we're scaling back almost everything in Phase I?

You have one chance to make a big splash and great first impression. It’s going to get harder and more expensive to do things later and without amenities like suites scoreboards and press boxes you don’t get the money and exposure needed to grow and be successful. You lose credibility doing this half-A. Especially after acting like we were getting a mini NFL stadium, much like the Ted was a mini pro arena for hoops.

This is about the time Giles comes in and sings kumbaya. The biggest upgrades are needed in Phase 1 to be sure that the product on the field can keep bringing in the donations. What a bust.

RE: NEW stadium construction
At this point just build a nice indoor facility/ practice fields. Inclose the beer garden area for extra lockerroom space and space out what season ticket holders we have left with extra room to move our legs around. Invest and save for the next 10 years for something a whole lot nicer than 20k seat erector set.

5 years ago we were disappointed in not getting a 35k stadium.

20k seat erector set height wise will be smaller than Foreman field. 07-coffee3
