Heupel ran the #1 offense in the SEC, and Shannon will absolutely kill it in Florida recruiting!

I don't remember him ever being linked to the position. I didn't even know he was the OC at Missouri until he was hired. The last time I heard his name is when his own college coach fired him at OU.

Getting Shannon as DC is big time. I can't comment enough on Heupel to say if he's gonna be good or bad.

True, I remember Skip Holtz was demoted by his dad while at USC east, but that didn't stop him from winning back to back CUSA championships while at ECU.

In all, Heupel has coached in 12 bowl games, including three BCS National Championship games, during his professional career and has been a part of six conference championships. He also was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy and led Oklahoma to the 2000 BCS National Championship as a senior quarterback.

During his time at Oklahoma, Heupel mentored numerous quarterbacks including Sam Bradford, who won the 2008 Heisman Trophy and was the No. 1 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Heupel also coached Landry Jones, who won the Sammy Baugh Award as the nation’s top college passer in 2010, and Trevor Knight, who was the 2014 Sugar Bowl Most Valuable Player.

My colleague is a big Missouri fan, says he brought Mizzou from the #124 offense to the #7 offense in 2 years, similar to what happened with Frost at UCF. Says they can dump a lot of points on most teams but struggle with top tier (who doesn't?)

Good move. I feel like we're going to have to get a DC with that type of experience if Scotty Mo is going to see year 4.

i hope he picks a great strength coach because frost brought a great one with him and to me that was the biggest cause for the turnaround being ahead of schedule. it doesn't get as much attention as coordinators, but i think it's the most important hire for a college coach.
