He should step down as well that pervert. It seems all men from both parties can't keep it in their pants.

Is there a reason that you don't use the headlines that already appear with the story?

Too many characters to use for the title. I cut it down a bit.

not to be too big a dick, but you need to stop. you're mangling the meaning. "inappropriate sexual misconduct" gave me a case of logical indigestion that lasted for two days.

Two things: Sexual harassment, while in and of itself wrong, is not the same as sexual assault. Second, the story you linked to says he was cleared of any wrongdoing. The same can't be said of Al Franken or John Conyers.

So no, Farenthold shouldn't resign, especially when he was exonerated. He just wants to pay the taxpayers back for his defense fund.

I remember some lefties on this board getting irate and belligerent over posts they thought were blatant falsehoods and lies. I believe that they were looking for board wide punishment for the offenders. I guess they should be chiming in about this thread very soon and ask for the OP's dismissal.

Just what i was thinking.

If he settled to avoid the embarrassment and was later exonerated, then he shouldn't even be thinking about paying it back and it's a great statement that he would try.

If however he was simply not found guilty (some clear evidence, but not enough to convict) then I think his offer is at best, appropriate.

If he was actually exonerated, I wish there were some way to make the accuser, or perhaps better, his political opponents or media whores who tried to benefit from it pay it back. I realize this is perhaps impossible to do, but it would be good if there were a way.

Or that it was swept under the rug. This guy and Conyers were on the list that should be outed and shamed. Why settled with the victim like Conyers' did? unless he felt guilty that he have done it?

Sexual harassment is wrong. So is sexual assault. They're not the same. Sexual assault is worse. Farenthold was accused of sexual harassment, and was later exonerated of the charge regardless of the suit's settlement. Therefore, no need for him to resign.

/thread.

Because the political cost of having your name drug through the ringer, even if you're innocent is very high... often higher than the political cost of paying them to shut up.

Talk to your insurance company about why they waive your deductible to repair small cracks in your windshield or why they don't usually challenge the PIP claims when you are at fault in the accident.

I'm not saying he's innocent, I have no idea. It is implied that he was actually exonerated and if so, he IS innocent.

Look at Moore. He claims he's innocent rather vehemently and if he IS, then he's been slandered and it could end his career. On some levels he is right to fight, but on others, a settlement could be the better option.

RE: Republican Blake Farenthold of Texas Says he Will Repay Taxpayers For His Sex Case
Blake Farenthold could be resigning from Congress as well.

It is he said/she said on these issues. The case is more than one former female staffers accused Farenthold. It is a pattern that he do have an issue as well. Look at Bill Cosby? Look at Weinstein as well as others? they all lost their jobs for the exact same things like Farenthold. Republicans and Democrats come to the aid of their fellow members to discredit these charges. It is not going to work anymore. Roy Moore is gone from the Senate after he gets elected. Republican, Democrat and Independent voters are gaining their voices against these people. Anybody who tried to shield and protect these predators while be voted out of houses as the swamp rats that they are.
