Hart was highly touted, but didn't quite live up to expectations.
Garret delivered on the hype as a Freshman, but then.....
If I had to choose between skill sets, I'd go Garret.

I think this subject just evolved into most-disappointing or most-overrated recruits. These two belong on the list.
Should also have a list of good players that left too early. Warner, Dumes, Antonio Gates, Grantham, Hess...

and my personal favorite, Gino Smith.
i've only been around since 2000. tough to make a top 5 for my time, but off the top of my head:

Karrington Ward
honorable mention:
Ryan Prillman
Mike Talley
Ray Lee
Marcus Austin
Boo Jackson (bonus points for having best parent. his mom was always on fire)
Beloved 'what could have been' team:
Jaquan Hart
Darryl Garrett
Gino Smith
Devin Dumes
Rico Harris

Garrett wore #23. Jaquan wore #1. both #1 in my heart.
Collin Dominguez christening it the Quanvocation Center remains the funniest thing i've ever heard in my life.

Adam Hess had as great shot too.
He left after a year and went on to be one of the Nation's leading scorer's somewhere else. William and Mary?

RE: All-Time Best 5 EMU MBB
I was a freshman in 2010 (I know, I pale in comparison to your memories, guys). So rather than trying to do an all-time best with only stat sheets to look at, I'm just doing a Top 5 FAVORITES:
1. Karrington Ward
2. Tim Bond
3. Glenn Bryant
4. James Thompson
5. Raven Lee (consistency/maturity holding him down)
HM: JR Sims, Daylen Harrison, Jamel Harris, Brandon Bowdry, Matt Balkema (but no where near a 'best' list).

Garret was the real deal and could have been a potential NBA player if he had stayed in school. He was an unbelievable talent!!
More big time players for us that we lost are Antonio Gates and Calvin Warner (best ups I've seen for a 6'7" freshman).

RE: All-Time Best 5 EMU MBB
This thread is cracking me up! Seems to be getting a life of it's own.
Anyway, Brian Tolbert might be the most exciting/amazing basketball player I have ever watched play. That includes Michael Jordan, Lebrun James, etc. He could literally dominate a game single handidly both and offense and defense. Yet he was never a selfish player.
There was some inconsistency in his game (probably because he played so other-worldly that some of the things he tried to do defied the laws of physics). That is why he is never made the NBA. And that is why he is not making most people's top 5.
But when he was on, which was more than it was not, it was a thing a thing of awe inspiring beauty to witness. An amazing basketball player. So I am selecting him to round out the top 5:
McIntosh
Gervin
Boykins
Long
Tolbert

What this shows is that being successful is more than raw talent.
Garrett was a particular shame. But he screwed up the academics and also screwed up. Period.
I heard the Garrett stories but I don't repeat them...
