Yep.

Schools like Alabama State would jump at the chance to get a guy like Ball. Not condoning his actions but the guys shoplifted.....

I'm 100% sure that nearly every adult man has done something worse.

I cant think of too many things that are worse than stealing. Rape, Murder and attempted murder are the things that I can think of off the top of my head. I have never raped or murdered or attempted to murder anyone. Ill go out on a limb and say that most posters here have probably, never done those things either.

Police brutality.
Racism.
Having an affair.
Drunk driving.
Child abuse.
Blackmail.
Extortion.
Espionage.

I came up with all of those in less than a minute and can go on.

You guys don't like his dad I get it. I'm a USC fan, you can imagine how much I was laughing at the RUINS and their class act. But he stole something, no one got hurt, no one died, charges were dropped.

If you have ever illegally downloaded a song. Watched a live stream that was not from an authorized source guess what? You deserve the same punishment you are wishing upon this young man.

Having an affair is a civil offense, not a criminal. Outside of schools with honor codes like Notre Dame and BYU it's hardly an offense of consequence (beyond the relationship in question).

Racism is not a crime, although if acted upon, it can lead to actions which are criminal, such as housing discrimination. It can also if shown or a jury suspects lead to a special add-on to a crime committed. Racism is a sub-form of tribalism, but I'm being technical (Tribalism is identification of oneself with a particular group, and that can be religious, or social, or in the case of racism, racial). Put another way, racism can be a motive for a crime, but it is not actually a crime. (Consider, you can be a Salafist, and believe that Americans are Kafir who deserve to die; but it's not a crime, but it could be the motive for blowing off a bomb or shooting people.)

As for espionage, not even the faculty members of cell outed at UC Davis are under any punishment. Maybe a disconnect between the way elites enforce the law and how we ordinaries interpret it.

He said worse.

No one made any mention of civil law vs criminal law.

Having any affair destroys families. Leaves children without a parent. Ruins marriages. Are you going to argue that a teenager stealing some material item is "worse" than that?

RE: LaVar Ball has pulled LiAngelo out of UCLA
We get subjective when we step outside the legal definition of what is a class 1, 2, or 3 or whatever felony.

Immoral is immoral. But everyone has a different morality (by definition it is not fixed but changing with society), and that depends on where you live, whom you worship, et al, and I am not judging.

In the context of illegal activities, having an affair is not worse, although I agree that it is as bad, but in the overwhelming majority of cases, extra marital affairs is not as an illegal activity that is enforced in this country.

No other NCAA school should take him. Let him go Juco if he doesn't go pro.

I don't think Daddy Ball has any intention of putting him back in school, he thinks he can groom him directly for the NBA.

But if he changes his mind, there will be plenty of takers. Let's face it: from a money POV, LaVar's impact has been far more positive than negative for his family. He's made his family name - not just his Lakers kid - famous, really famous. And that's very tough to do in today's cacophonous media environment.

So there are plenty of schools that would take a two-star Ball just to get the attention. Unless we're talking about child pornography or something similar, PT Barnum's maxim has never been more relevant.

I don't agree. Not all publicity is good publicity--ask Greg Schiano, new head coach at Tennessee, wait, no, incoming update, apparently new national director of NAMBLA.

The Big Baller Brand Show is not the kind of attention that helps you win games, helps coaches and ADs keep their jobs, or drives applications to your school. (At least not applicants you'd want, unless they're even richer than they are dumb). It's the kind of attention that gets people fired. All for the pleasure of dealing with Lonzo Ball as your shadow head coach/athletic director. Not a smart move--it gets you on ESPN a few times, one of which is the time you get fired because your program is an embarrassing dumpster fire.

Phil Fullmer at Tennessee at least earned the right with some national championships at the school. Lonzo Ball, not so much.

You mean LaVar Ball, the dad. Lonzo plays for the Lakers.

Seems to me that the biggest obstacle for LiAngelo is his dad, and the second-biggest obstacle is that he's not nearly as good a player as Lonzo. If LiAngelo had Lonzo's talent, some high-major program would decide that it's worth putting up with LaVar. As it is, the best situation for LiAngelo is probably a good mid-major program far enough from L.A. that LaVar won't be around much.

Well, i did say in the prior post that certain kinds of publicity - like child pornography - are truly bad publicity. But of course the Ball Circus is nothing like that. IMO, it's precisely the kind of publicity that a school that is in the shadows wants. Ball will bring sporscenter and social media attention to the school, and it will do more good than harm.

But hey, we'll see how it plays out.

RE: LaVar Ball has pulled LiAngelo out of UCLA
Quote:Lithuanian club coach turned LiAngelo Ball rumors into the ultimate burn

LaVar Ball pulled his son, LiAngelo Ball, out of UCLA on Monday after he grew irritated with the school’s indefinite suspension for LiAngelo’s shoplifting arrest in China.

Though LiAngelo is not considered an NBA prospect, LaVar said that LiAngelo will spend the next seven months preparing for the NBA draft. He has already been tied to Lithuanian Basketball League club Lietkabelis. According to Yahoo! Sports‘ Jeff Eisenberg, the team has approached the Ball camp about the services of both LiAngelo and 16-year-old LaMelo Ball.

Someone should have checked with the club’s head coach first.

As rumors of Lietkabelis’ interest in the Ball brothers spread on Twitter, head coach Arturs Stalbergs took a shot at LiAngelo’s shoplifting arrest in a now-deleted tweet.

[Image: screen-shot-2017-12-05-at-12-23-13-pm.jpg]

Oh, man. That wouldn’t be the best way to start a parent-coach relationship with the already-volatile LaVar.

I don't know the official result but if the kid was "expelled" (or what ever the legal term is) from China, he is going to have a very hard time getting a visa to another country.

If I had a team (amateur, pro, or anything in between) I would insist LaVar sign an agreement that he would not come to practice, would not criticize coaches, refs, administrators, or anybody else associated with the team.

LaVar reminds me of one of those child pageant moms.
