RE: UCLA Game Thread
not sure but rumors are that several major Prison basketball teams are seriously recruiting Levar Ball's son. He shows lots of promise to be a future long time star for the prison system.

Talking about Cumberland, Mick said, "You can't speed the process up for young guys. It's just like Cane and Justin have been going through the last few games." What the ****?! Cane is a 4th year college player, albeit a transfer, and Justin is a junior. I actually think the two of them are doing fine, but for the coach to site their relative struggles with being young is absolute bull****.

Remember, we're just fans. Laymen. All we see are wins and losses. I know for the UCLA game I will have my player deflections chart ready to go!

Yeah but what he said about Cumberland makes sense to me. He basically said that Jarron is adjusting to more minutes and he is learning that to log major college minutes it isn't like high school -you have to eat better, get more sleep etc. So maybe this is his problem and as he adjusts (provided he follows what he needs to for eating/sleep/etc)., he will improve as the season goes on.

Let's hope so.

RE: UCLA Game Thread
A win at Pauley is possible but improbable in my mind. Obviously, the Bruins are tough at home. If Cumberland regains his shooting touch and the rest of the team plays with the defensive intensity they demonstrated against MSU it could be a very good win come Selection Sunday. No matter the defense though, I don't expect UC to hold UCLA to the 50 points they allowed MSU. So to win, I think UC must score in the high 70's.

RE: UCLA Game Thread
did mick say he scheduled the games like this on purpose? jesus. i hope you people never complain about quality opponents again. the alternative of course is to never have this opportunity and bemoan a low seed in the tourney (which is never a guarantee not even with mick's best team). it's obviously hard to tell, but i wonder if mick learns things from teams he plays

RE: UCLA Game Thread
It may go against conventional wisdom but I think we should try and speed this game up.

They have a 7footer who is pretty good and they play zone (2-3 or 3-2). I think we could be in for a long day if this turns into a half court offense vs half court offense especially one that will most likely result in us passing the ball around and settling for a three point shot most of the time. I think we should score on the break as much as possible, take their seven footer out of the equation and then try and press them. They aren't deep due to suspensions and they are young.

Easy baskets off the break and full court pressure against this young team may do the trick. They re not deep and they are prone to turning it over, at least at guard. All in all, lets speed it up, force them to turn it over and try and score in transition. Question is, will we get back quick enough on defense to set up a press if we score on a fast break. Even if we don't, I still like our chances in this one and I would trust our transition defense vs theirs.

I still have nightmares of watching UC walk the ball down vs Florida with the ball handler looking to Mick EVERY trip. That was just a horrible coaching decision by Cronin vs Florida...HORRIBLE.

I do think it makes sense to try to get some easy transition buckets, but I don't think we'll try to get in a track meet with them. UCLA plays fast on offense (their 12th nationally in fastest possessions). They've only been slightly better than UC in offensive efficiency so far this year.

UC should be able to protect the ball as UCLA really doesn't force turnovers. They also aren't great defensively. To me this screams of a team we should be able to score against if we move the ball and slow down if we prevent them from running.

Home court and name on the jerseys. I fully expect the Cats to come out with a sphincter pucker factor of 10.

LOL yup...for whatever reason we are the big bad wolves against the scrubs and then when we get on the big stage and the curtain goes up Mick's teams immediately crap their britches and then stand there looking all awkward and shy.

What is sad about our remaining schedule is we only play four teams that are in the Kenpom top 50, very sad.

Honest question, is anyone expecting a win? I’m hopeful, it seems that we’re more talented but I’m not expecting a win.

During the game I'm going to be in the woods, in a tree, with a bow, reading this thread and trying not to laugh out loud.
