I guess if he got the job then Fickell would no longer kick him out of the locker room. In all seriousness, Pike has pretty good gig right now. Hopefully, whoever gets the job is a recent alumnus. Munchie would be great.

Basically it's support, counseling, and team-building in most cases.

I like Tony on the radio with Mo. Good interaction between the two of them and James Rapien. Given how bad the Lances and Broos are I'd like to see more airtime for these guys.

Tony Pike actually said he'd be interested if the job was offered to him on Twitter.
I think having an Orange/Sugar Bowl Alumnus in that position, preferably with some NFL experience, would help a lot.

It was my understanding the position also works with graduating players on employment opportunities.

That is correct. Effectively it's similar to an Academic Program Coordinator at most universities, just specifically for the football team.

Slightly off topic but the one guy that I would absolutely love to see come back to uc after his playing career is Connor Barwin. The guy was a Bearcat through and through.

Maybe Gino could reach out to an old team mate who he thinks might be a good fit. How about his brother? No idea what Ben is up to. Move Austen Bujnoch into the role?

Congratulations to Doug. I hope he can continue to improve perceptions about UC and UC football in some way in his new role.
I may not have put enough emphasis one MORE...it's a number that seems ludicrous for high school football. I've heard $150,000+ from someone who is close with another in the running for the position.
$150K sounds awfully steep for a high school football coach with no track record. I do know there are a few guys making ~$100,000 right now, and that is based on given roles as teacher, coach, AD, bus driver, whatever other title they can give to justify a higher salary. These are mostly the guys that have won regional and state championships
This sounds ridiculous to me.
Rodenberg (the Moeller coach who just resigned) was my high school football coach at McNick. He told us that he took a huge pay cut from being a restaurant manager, and that he calculated his salary as a football coach to be less than 50 cents per hour (he was also a gym teacher and I think a religion teacher, but that was probably close to the lowest paid teaching job you can get).
That's McNick, not Moeller. But still - he was at McNick for 10 years, and other than the first year I think he made the playoffs every year with a 100% white roster.
By the way - it's a shame that he was forced out. Rodenberg is one of the finest role models I've ever met.
The schools justify the salaries by giving the coaches an administration title (ie. Dean Of Students). Most of the suburban high schools in Greater Cincinnati are paying their administrators ~$90-110,000. My ex-wife is a school principal and will earn $105K this year.
That's a public school salary. Catholic schools pay much, much less on all levels.
I lost count of the number of my former teachers who moved to a public school because of the higher pay. But that's a tougher job because the students aren't as motivated and there's not as much support from parents - that's why so many stay at Catholic schools despite the low pay.

It's great to have a guy on the inside now. Rosfeld will be putting the "Moel" in "Moeller."

That's not at all true. Educators, yes, I would agree...but I have a buddy in development up here at St. Johns Jesuit making six figures 6 years out of college. I also know of at least three administrators who left their public school positions in Toledo to jump to private schools specifically because of more pay.

Catholic schools are paying their coaches pretty well as well. Jim Hilvert left a college job to go to Lasalle for a six figure salary (he has since moved on to Baldwin-Wallace).

I'm surprised no one has suggested Coombs for the opening at UC yet. :)

Not to mention it would be a resounding positional demotion. No idea why it was even brought up.

Maybe as a joke, since his name seems to be brought up by a westsider every time there's a job opening at UC.

Mike Shanahan would be a more realistic candidate.
