If they are made to look unneeded, or worse an impediment to top schools, and are dropped the networks get to dole out the revenue from these 4 games as they see fit and they control all three weeks of what would become the 8 team playoff.

Delaney and Sankey know better than to fall for that. The SEC and Big 10 clean up on these games.

So it's not happening.

Good point.

Its the same thing with the Bowl revenue. The P5 take their shares of the Rose, Sugar and Orange off the top.

The BEST CCG, by far, was Memphis-UCF for the AAC title.

If you like ping pong on grass, yeah. I thought it was an exciting game and I watched it. It's just that I kept hoping that at any moment that an actual defensive play would be made.

I think the P5 will work to change the playoff structure so the winners are in to an 8 team playoff. That will expand the Playoff revenue and increase the importance of these games. Win-win for the P5.

Just a matter of time.

It would be a NET loss for the Big 10 and SEC to give up the CCG. The playoff money for that first round would not be lucrative enough to bring it about. Delaney spelled it out nicely and laid it between the line.

I don't know if it would be more or less for the ACC or PAC 12. We'll see.

In terms of the "playoff" committee they're just another game. For the conferences, it does establish a champion and bragging rights. A round robin would be better for that but they don't play enough games in football for everyone to play each other.

RE: Are conference championship games useless?
Here is a way to have an 8 team playoff that doesn't change the current structure too much. Make the conference championship games first round playoff games. If it has to just be P5 (which I'm sure it would be) then so be it and those 5 winners advance to round 2 in four 'major' bowl games. The other three schools are selected as "at large" based on their ranking or a committee I suppose and should include at least one 'G5' team but more could be chosen based on their ranking.

This would at least make the conference championship games meaningful and provide a more 'fair' playoff.

So the 4 major bowl games are semifinals in the playoff.

The 13th data point or game honestly can help you or hurt you. Same can be said of not playing that 13th game. Is it the title of conference champion that makes a difference or having an extra victory over a top team? Most would agree had Miami beaten Clemson they would be in the playoff despite the fact that was only their 12th game. If everyone recalls Miami played one less game due to the hurricane. Would not playing a 13th game hurt their eligibility for the playoff? I don't think it would.

They used to be a sense of pride!! You are the best in ur conference and then u get to go to a solid bowl or national title game. I feel like the cfp had has destroyed that somewhat

Great day of college football.

I could do that as a child and young adult but there's no way I can do that anymore. 3-4 hours max for me. I probably wouldn't watch more than an hour or two, if that, if I had a nuclear family.
