Scouting Duke
Duke has the 22nd rated Defense in the country. We are 18th but have played much worse teams. Duke won their last two games to become bowl eligible, beating Wake Forest and Georgia Tech. The blew out Northwestern early in the season. They were close in most games and never really got blown out. I don't believe we win 6 games with their schedule but we would be close.

On offense they have three good running backs and a big sophomore qb. I believe we will be underdogs but shouldn't be overmatched. Hopefully some of our injuries on defense have a chance to heal.

RE: Scouting Duke
the NU-Duke score is perplexing when reading tea leaves especially when comparing results for common Duke-BC eagles teams like Chips.

Cats had many big wins in 9-3 season.

Wake and GT are solid wins. Wake had a good ball club and GT is just tough to beat with that wishbone/option they run

I liked our defense much more before key injuries took their toll. CMU, Toledo and even Buffalo have shown that you can pass on the Huskies.

I guess this game will decide who is better, NU or NIU.

RE: Scouting Duke
Duke and BC are very similar teams in terms of quality, and in terms of how they're built to be honest. Should look a lot like the opener, let's just hope the ending works out better for us this time.

RE: Scouting Duke
If Jordan Huff doesn't have 150 yards rushing we lose. We have no legitimate consistency on offense except him. The defense gets shredded in the pass game even with Lurry playing so I don't see him missing being that significant. He got torched a lot this year and had trouble making tackles.

RE: Scouting Duke
Pretty even match-up.

NIU:
FBS Ranking Offense Defense
Rushing 187.3 (40th) 112.3 (11th)
Passing 197.1 (89th) 215.8 (56th)
Overall 90th 18th

DUKE:
FBS Ranking Offense Defense
Rushing 167.9 (61st) 160.6 (60th)
Passing 210.2 (80th) 174.8 (12th)
Overall 92nd 22nd

Run Huff AND Harbison. Then Childers has to execute the play-action.

RE: Scouting Duke
We just have to hit some passes that are longer than 10 yards. Some deep balls would really open up the run game. Teams don't think Childers is a threat to hit a deep pass. Hopefully these 3 weeks help his timing. I believe we have plus receivers

RE: Scouting Duke
Comparing team statistics in this game is of little value. Duke strength of schedule is significantly harder than ours. The teams we beat with bad records such as Ball State were awful, they were blown away by mediocre teams. Duke beat a “ bad” Baylor team (1-11). Look at how competitive Baylor was against very good teams such as #2 Oklahoma. The MAC was not good this year, and we failed to beat a single team with a winning record. I was expecting the spread to be somewhere between -8 to -12 Duke,

I also thought the spread would be higher, around 7 points or something like that.

It is creeping up after starting at 3. Now 4 1/2. O/U= 47 1/2.

RE: Scouting Duke
If you guys have any questions about Duke, ask away and I will do my best to answer them. I'm a diehard fan and multiyear season ticket holder.

A quick comment or two:

1. Defense has been our best side of the ball this season. The linebackers are very talented. Joe Giles-Harris (#44) was first team All ACC. Ben Humphreys (#34) suffered a hurt leg against Army and did not play in the last two games. He should be back. Both cornerbacks are solid with Mark Gilbert (#28) being first team All ACC. Our DL has talent and depth with Mike Ramsay (#99) being third team All ACC.

2. Senior running back Shaun Wilson (#29) is our most dynamic playmaker. He has breakaway speed. Freshman Brittain Brown (#22) is big and fast. QB Daniel Jones (#17) has been inconsistent at times but when he is on he has the ability to be very good. We like to throw the ball to the tight ends. Seven of 14 TD passes have gone to TEs.

3. Special teams are a mixed bag. Shaun Wilson is a great kick returner but we struggle with punt returns. Receiver T.J. Rahming (#3) has been back there most of the year but he has a tendency to let punts land and roll, which results in lost field position.

I'm looking forward to the game. Let me know if you have questions.

Hmm, we don't usually cover the tight end, we like to let them roam free in the secondary. Is that a problem?
