Thing is, 80% of these bowls have no 'original name' that differs from their current corporate name, because they didn't exist long ago.
And ESPN owns what... 75%+ of them too?

Bowl pairings coming in
Vegas stays in MW, believe UNLV has a big say in this.

Hmm, P5 vs P5 and move up in bowl status or stay as G5 and get a bottom Pac 12 team if there is enough. Yup, the latter seems like the better decision.

Could the MAC be included in a new G5 level Holiday Bowl?
Las Vegas bowl goes the P5 route while Holiday becomes MWC vs. MAC champion.
MWC likes it because because its on their turf and the MAC has been a willing dance partner in the Boise Bowl. ESPN has invested in the MAC so better to play them from a pub standpoint than CUSA or SBC.
ESPN is invested in the MAC and Boise State. ESPN tried so hard to get San Diego State, air Force, BYU and Boise State into the Big East. Maybe ESPN could try and throw out a bonus to get the mWC and AAC to merge, and grab BYU and Gonzaga for a 24 conference team?

I think ESPN is more interested in keeping an every man for himself mentality among the G5.
Aresco is completely focused on marketing the AAC as a P6 to position the AAC as a contract conference. He will probably try to get the AAC to again sign as many bowl deals with the P5 as possible.
MWC and MAC have been in the G5 game for a long time and want to keep their edge on the SBC/CUSA. It makes sense to work together on the post season as both have odd locations.
Then you have the SBC and CUSA trying to get it figured out. Many new programs under 10 years in FBS who nobody knows how good they will ultimately be. At one time CUSA was the big brother but now they are peer conferences.
