I used to live across the river in Windsor and you could always tell which way the wind was blowing by how it smelled. As I recall, victory was never anything that came to mind when the wind blew my way from Zug Island. GOOOO ROCKETS!

Well, I couldn’t use “napalm” because they haven’t napalmed Detroit. Yet.

Early arrivals in Detroit. There is a huge running race going one all around the stadium. Roads are blocked. Its sort of a cluster F$#k.

Best I'm able to tell from Googling, Detroit's Jingle Bell Trot is always first Sat and Sun of Dec. MACC has been held on Fri., so no history of experience someone could have brought but I suppose it would be wise for someone planning such a large event to see what other conflicts might arise by looking at an activity calendar.
Funny thing, it's something I would usually do, if taking myself. I always look to see what else I might do, when driving somewhere for an appointment. But since I took the bus.... Even so, I doubt I would have caught on that these events would conflict because the race route probably would not have occurred to me.
Cool area, with all the stadiums and views.

Who doesn't like a good jingle bell trot? I for one didnt appreciate the lack of coordination. Not sure who is at fault, the MAC office, Ford Field, the city. I thought it was bush league.

I thought it easy oversight from the POV of UT AD OR the MAC, since they don't normally conflict. I'd put this one on whoever manages city events. If they DID notify MAC about the conflict, then it's on MAC.
Either way, for the bus riders it was... an adventure. But they had access to better correction I imagine than someone arriving by personal vehicle. That would not have been fun.
As for participating? My days are passed enjoying running. I can do the same walking, maybe taking in a show. I saw through the Arena windows a theatre of some sort. We like that little stretch along Michigan avenue near the old stadium, the bit on Woodward near Shinola. We usually hit that around Christmas time for shopping. Parking in downtown is not an adventure I'd look forward to paying for.
