As I said earlier, historically If UTEP or UTSA were to win CUSA and they "chose" one of the Florida bowls because of the opponent AND both F_U schools are bowl eligible....you KNOW they want them.... so are the bowl reps really at the mercy of "whoever wins the champ". I could see a situation where they say "um, no. We don't want UTEP. We want F_I". So here's the million dollar question: are cusa-tied bowls LEGALLY obligated to extend invites to whomever the conf champ is (regardless of where they are located) upon request???
I think behind closed doors, the conference tells UTEP they need to take a bowl in Texas or New Mexico and publicly they say that’s what they wanted. I still don’t believe Marshall wanted northern Illinois over Illinois the year they beat us in the championship game.
If that's true, Marshall fans should be pissed if they, being CONFERENCE CHAMPS, are forced/told where they are going bowling.
Again, this is another reason why CUSA needs leadership that's got the cajones (no pun intended) to hammer this out. There's absolutely no reason for there to be THIS much ambiguity with our conference bowls. This is why I created a bowl discussion thread a few weeks ago asking all the way-ifs/whos/whens/buts. There isn't anything official/legal on CUSA's website that answers these questions. Is this type of transparency that hard??? #firejudy
What's worse is that our coach and AD told us that they wanted the best opponent available and that was NIU. Which technically may have been correct, but for all intents and purposes, Illinois was the best team out there as it gave us a chance to beat a P5 convincingly in a year we had not played one. Total **** show. But I think the real reason was they wanted a regional school in the HoD and were afraid MU wouldn't being enough peeps. Playing Illinois would have had Herd fans crawling out of the woodwork, smelling blood in the water.
I think it was going to be tough for Marshall. It was noon the day after Christmas. Your fans would basically have to spend Christmas in dallas. I don’t know about you, but that wouldn’t fly in my family. We had our normal Christmas and drove over the next morning. If roles were reversed and it were Tech wanting to be in a Florida Bowl the morning after Christmas...I’d be watching on tv.
South Florida is just as far to us as East Texas, logistically. It's gonna be a plane ride. The only difference is we probably have more alumni in the Florida area than Texas, but for the WV traveler it's 6 on one hand half dozen on the other.

The Armed Forces Bowl against Army would be great for LA Tech. Much better than we deserve, frankly. A nationally televised game against a service academy, right in the middle of our recruiting patch. What's not to like? Oh....we went to the same bowl last year? So what? Maybe you missed the part where our team posted a 6-6 record this year. We'd be lucky to get invited to the Toilet Bowl this year.
I don't dislike the Armed Forces Bowl against Army, I was just explaining why I would prefer the Frisco Bowl which is just a close. At 6-6 I just don't care. I want to go to a bowl and that's about it. BTW Army is pretty good this year. We would probably get smoked.

Question is would you have had 25k+ Marshall fans in Cotton Bowl Stadium at noon on December 26th? If not it's a bad deal for the bowl.

Given this year is a 6-6 season and the Tech faithful are not very energized the Indy Bowl and Frisco bowls would get the best attendance. AF Bowl would be a close third. I just don't think we are going to travel will this year given so many near misses this season. Toyota Stadium is on 20500 and I think it would mask a lot of that especially if we played Houston.

I think we'd have more people at the AF bowl than Frisco. Saturday vs. Wednesday. But SMU is expected to be on the other side of that Frisco Bowl so if the stadium only holds 20k, I'd imagine it will be full.

Oh you're saying SMU will only bring 2k. Good. We'd have a home game then.

I would love to play in the Frisco Bowl. Especially if Chad Morris goes somewhere else before the game. SMU would be deflated and susceptible to a loss.

Too bad my friend.
If you're a movie buff like me, LA is a great place to visit...San Diego has great Brew Pubs and Mexican food....Lake Tahoe is beautiful winter/spring/summer/fall..and Yosemite stands with Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon as our signature National Parks...
So try it some time..

California is a great place to visit. Keyword visit. San Diego is one of my favorite places on this earth. I hear San Fran is a great place to visit also, never been there though.

Currently visiting San Diego. Can confirm it's a great place to visit. Something for everyone. Went to the beach today and it's December.

Don’t have to go to San Diego for good weather in December. It’s going to be 73 here today.

But we all know a lot of things can change. I feel the Indy Bowl is a 50/50 chance for USM. Definitely will be an ACC opponent. Probably Duke, FSU, or Boston College. Whoever gets this bowl from CUSA be it us, LT, UTSA, UNT....we HAVE to win. Wins vs P5s carry a lot of weight going for improving CUSA's perception.
This is the only bowl worth a damn we back into. Good luck to the lucky team that gets a bowl game against someone that you care if you beat them or not.
