VB looks like the least of our problems.

No disagreement there.. But the Rice way is to wait until it becomes one. And that isn't smart.

Not weighing in either way on the VB coach.. But whatever we do it should ensure it doesnt or ne long before it becomes a 4 alarm dumpster fire.

Rice should easily be able to out recruit all the other CUSA schools. All the schools offer equal chance of going on the professional level (i.e., zero). Rice has (by far) the most valuable scholarship to offer. The most of the best volleyball players are from families who could invest a lot of time and $$ putting their daughters into club programs (i.e., upper middle class families; the prime Rice market). We have good facilities and a very nice campus.

Why on earth should we settle for a program that is consistently in the top 1/4 of a lousy conference but never wins the regular season conference title? Why is 100th best volleyball team in the country good enough?

Volpe has been head coach since 2004. The team has not made the NCAA tournament since 2009. Given our advantages, I think that we should expect better. How much longer should we wait?

MS State - 9-22 on the season. Hero Sports computer ranking = 224
Wake Forest - 12-18 on the season. Hero Sports computer ranking = 177

Rice did not beat a Top 50 team this year and I don't think they beat a Top 100 team. They often struggled to beat really bad teams.

Gotcha. Yeah, didn't do any kind of deep research.

I generally agree that our volleyball program should be better. I don't know volleyball well enough to watch a game and comment on the coaching.

Looking at the apparent trajectory of WBB, would sit down w Volpe and ask her what she needs to do the same. If she hasn’t already she should be talking to Langley herself

Coach Langley will be successful because she knows how to recruit. We have three possible four P5 players on the WBB team. For example, A&M wanted the Ogwumike sisters really bad but Coach Langley convinced them to come to Rice. If a coach excels at recruiting he/she will be successful at Rice. Recruiting just has not been up to par for WVB. It has been good for Conference USA but Conference USA such a poor VB conference to use as a refernece point.
