It has typically been played during the second to third week in December which is best IMO. There may have been a scheduling issue to have it earlier this year. Here are the dates played during the Mick Cronin era:

Count me among those who prefer it in December. In the past, it's proven to be a major distraction in the middle of the conference season with both teams often crashing in their respective games after the Shootout.

I know it's not "either/or" but I'd much rather see UC win the conference than beat X. It's one game. I think I saw a statistic recently that Kansas has won 12 straight Big 12 titles. Winning the conference still matters if UC aspires to be the best in league and then advance in March. To me, those are far more important measures of success.

Actually it's been going back and forth recently. Fox controls the game when X hosts and they prefer the game in December. ESPN controls it when we host and prefer it in the middle of the season. Personally there's a circus element to the game that I prefer to get out of the way during the nonconference schedule so I prefer it early but these decisions aren't even made by the school, it's the networks decision. Expect the game to continue to alternate between the non conference and conference parts of the schedule.

Look at the dates I posted above. It has only been played later than December 3 times out of 11 (Mick Cronin era). ESPN does not push it to be in the middle of the season. The networks know that both universities prefer it is played before conference play.

Sorry, got a little lazy and didn't read the whole thread. I believe it was said last year ESPN was the ones who wanted it played later in the season and I just assumed that's what had been going on.

That said the last two times weve hosted have been late January and early February so there is a recent pattern that when we host it's been later. I expect that to continue

I am probably different than most. Play the game in November/December or March. Play it on campus, at US Bank, or on the blacktop in Xenia. The team should be up for this one no matter the time or locale. I know Eggs always is ready to go.

For me this is the one sporting event I will be watching this weekend. Probably will catch the SEC CH game, however could care less about the rest. Do not care about the Bungles. Mick prefers to downplay the game anyway. Hope he realizes this is one of the games he will be measured on, whether he likes it or not.

He has 4 big games to build this team's resume. The players and coaches should be chomping at the bit to show how good they are. Great competition and an ability to make a statement. Take care of business Saturday. Beat Eggs by 100!

Since we've joined the AAC, I think ESPN likes it in the middle of the season.

I read that UC hasn't won at Cintas since 2001. Yikes!

UC needs to start winning these games on a more regular basis, or they're going to stop calling it a rivalry.

There was that time the year before the fight, I don't think it mattered where we played them. We were far and away better than they could ever hope to be. In a similar circumstance, I can see another loaded UC team clubbing them at their place during a rebuilding year. This win would mean a lot more though.


As an aside, Cintas brand clothing is some of the most uncomfortable, cheaply made crap it has ever been my misfortune of being forced to wear for a job. I sometimes forget those dicks sponsor an arena.
