Ouch. Just saw Walker is out with a sprained ankle. I guess THIS is the opportunity to find that third double digit scorer? I still see us winning this game easily.

I say...

KSU 74
NSU 59

Well, I've been wrong before...

It's interesting Bernstein is getting good minutes...

I paid the $5 to watch this terrible feed, and, KSU looks bad. Really bad.

I can’t imagine we could play a worse half than that. A chaotic mess.

About the only positive from that first half Pippen played really well and for once stayed out of foul trouble. Gonna need some guys to step up in the second half. Bernstein playing meaningful minutes might be an indictment of how disappointing Johnson has been so far. I was hoping he would step up with Walker out but that hasn't happened.

Frustrating first 30 minutes but showed some resiliency on the road. Nice to see Avery and Zabo step up in the second half. That's what you like to see from experienced PGs on the road. Heck of a night by De La Rosa too. 19 pts, 10 rebs, 3 blks in 26 minutes including 13-14 from the line. It's really impressive how much he's improved his game in the off season. Sounded like Duling had some monster dunks and blocks while the tide was turning too.

I only caught a few minutes of the game on my car radio. How long is Walker expected to be out? The only thing the radio man said was that he had an "ankle injury". I was listening when Bernstein entered the game. The announcer said that Senderoff "burned" his redshirt year. What the heck? Senderoff must not have any faith at all in Johnson.

I thought Bernstein had to sit out a year - he played last year at Maine, and there wasn't a coaching change. I didn't think the redshirt year was optional.

If I'm not mistaken, it's one of those weird rules ... he was a walkon at Maine, and a walkon at Kent ... walkons don't have to sit (even though he played and started at Maine) ... if that's not the actual rule, it is something close to that.

Usually see these kind of rules in football, not basketball.

RE: KSU @ Norfolk State (Walker Out)
Man, for the first time in more than a decade I didn't even realize the good guys had a game. Based on the box score:

It appears that De La Rosa continues to show consistent signs of improvement. I had to do a double take when I saw that he was 13-14 from the line. The fouls do seem to be piling up for him, though, which could be a year long problem.

Reading the Kent State shot 83% from the foul line (on 31 attempts!) is music to my ears.

I assume Avery playing 37 minutes had a little to do with Walker being out. Either way, he is a key. Decent floor game last night from the point guard.

Did something happen to Frederick? Because if not I worry that the old "start him but only play for him for 6 minutes" could turn into the annual "where did this guys minutes go?" I just can't see a scenario playing out where Coach can leave a 6'9 230 pounder on the bench...not with this roster.

Gotta continue to patient with Peterson I would guess. Only a sophomore, adjusting to life without Hall as much as anybody on the team. but getting some more points out of him would be helpful.

Beat CSU!

Frederick had been playing well off the bench, got a start and did not go well, I would guess he will be back to being a bench player and spelling DLR. I like his game and he runs the floor well.

DLR FT shooting has been amazing and shows how much work he has put in during off season. Need Duling to work on his now.

It might be a strategy to keep DLR from racking up too many fouls early, so he's on the floor at crunch time. It didn't work last night.

Looking at the Sagarin rankings, we've had the 339th toughest schedule out of 351 teams. YSU is ranked 346th overall, Norfolk State is at 343rd, MVSU is at 333. OCU isn't ranked. CSU doesn't help much at 305. Did we plan that these opponents would all stink?

My guess is that we knew exactly what we were doing. We wanted to be undefeated at this point. We probably should be but our shooting has been much worse than expected.
