Still not going to be able to let this one go. The refs had already warned GMU about flopping/embellishment twice in the final minute and then fell for it twice in the final five seconds.

I think that was probably the absolute worst, most blatant pile of BS I've ever seen in my life. I was watching Joey and whoever for Mason battle underneath the whole time... When the whistle blew I went "Ok good, they saw that, shot will probably count but hopefully not." hahahahahhaha right, I guess I forgot it was JMU vs. George Mason.

RE: George Mason @ JMU hoops
That broke the win probability chart. You guys were about 99.5% to win there late. I know what the ref saw, but the guy pushed Mclean down as they were hooked up and then Mclean pulled him down. Double foul, no call, but you cant decide the game on that one. I didn't mind the offensive foul call off the ball, Mclean just shoved the guy when he blocked his path. Again tough call, esp on the backend of the game decider but possibly the right call.

Mason shot lights out from 3 and JMU didn't and JMU still should have won. This team is improving and will cause some issues as they improve this year. Hope Lou can keep bringing in classes similar to this one.

Almost. The guy pushed McLean down, wouldn't let go of his arm and then fell while still holding McLean's arm. It was a crafty move 25 years ago. That **** should not still work. Oh, and the guy who flopped on the charge was the same guy who pulled Joey down on the rebound. Three bad calls against the senior captain in a minute and a half.

I don't care if they win another game this season as long as they get it together by tournament time and win that.

Yeah, I'm anxious to see the replay. I'm 99% sure I saw dude holding Joey's arm, not the other way around. The charge I thought was soft as hell, especially given the situation, but the foul on the five point play was flat out bass ackwards and ridiculous.

Same here.

I was very pleased with Phillips last night. Now, he *should* have a good game because Mason has no post presence, but I thought Phillips made some nice passes out of the post when double teamed and was very active (double-double). Hopefully, this is a game where he realizes he can be a force at this level.

The trio of Mosley-McLean-Lewis are going to make this winter a lot more fun to watch. Snowden does a lot of dirty work that often goes un-noticed in the box score. Phillips is improving. Need some other guys to step their games up (and perhaps get healthy). Banks is starting and it is nice bringing Lewis off the bench, but I think he (Banks) and Jacobs have higher ceilings in terms of what they can achieve this frosh season.

Hopefully, this team is pissed about last night and comes out Saturday night to take it out on a beatable Charlotte bunch.

I guess I can say I saw a new way to score 9 points in 26 seconds vs the traditional way of LUCK. This ending was preordained by the stripers, who more and more are guys seemingly on power trips.

RE: George Mason @ JMU hoops
Wow- that was an awful job at the end of the game by the refs- McLean got pushed by the Mason freshman on the first two calls and I think the last call typically a Senior gets the call against a Freshman- I know if it was the reverse (Livingston vs. Jacobs as an example Livingston probably gets that call).

I thought the Dukes played well- someone mentioned the switches- especially when Jacobs or Scissum were in the Dukes were very vulnerable there. Phillips made up for the switches at times with some great blocked shots. As others have said- the ball movement on offense was good the Dukes just missed too many open looks. I thought the game plan was sound and the inside out style worked well. When they doubled Phillips he either kicked it out for open threes or hit a cutting Duke (usually Snowden).

The Dukes should be able to play that way with that lineup for most of the season based on the relative size of their opposition. Jacobs is clearly still hindered by the hand which is a shame. They could use another productive front court reserve. I'd personally like to see Smith as the reserve in the front court until Jacobs gets right.

The line on the game was GMU -1.5. JMU had that covered with just seconds left and then the refs start blowing some serious BS whistles until GMU was covering the -1.5. hmmmmm...

no special insight here, just echoing what everyone else has said. that was criminal. How many fouls did Mclean get in the last two minutes, 3 or 4? I have never seen a series of 4 awful calls go against one team.

I did think the offensive call on Mclean was correct, but at that point the damage had been done by the refs.

That would have been a nice win and the Dukes and Rowe deserved that one.

Dukes and Rowe need to use this as motivation moving forward.

RE: George Mason @ JMU hoops
next morning for me, and like many, still can't believe that ending and the robbery that took place.

i watched the game in bits and pieces and missed a good chunk of the second half. I happened to turn the game back on right as GMU was coming out of their timeout with 22 seconds left. I should have just left it off. :-/

while earlier in the year when i saw the team, I didn't see much potential for this year, I saw lots of improvement last night from even a few weeks ago.

this team does have some potential. And by year end in the CAA, could be a team no one wants to face. I like where Rowe has this team going. we just need them to continue to get experience and coaching. This team and program is moving in the right direction for sure.

Oh hey lemme check the thread to see how the Dukes MBB did last night:

I'm not normally a "fix is on" guy but if there was a body that investigated potential referee gambling and influencing games this game HAS to be at the top of the list.

what really killed me, with 22 seconds left, a graphic flashed up that said Dukes 71 - GMU 67 - Final. I thought it was one of those deals where the video was behind the actual game and that we had won. I was fully expecting to see a brick 3 attempt by GMU and the Dukes to run out the clock.

Dagger.

Right before the chaos at the end got going (made 3 + baloney foul call for 5-pt trip), I was thinking to myself that Mason was taking forever and wasting a ton of time down by 2 possessions. I think the way we lost last night will piss these young'uns of ours off and we'll see a lot of fire out of them. They play hard already as-is. Heck, last year's team played hard most of the time, they just didn't have much talent to go with the effort. This team has better talent. Just lacks experience. If nothing else (hey, I'm trying to get this bad taste out of my mouth), this is a learning thing for our young'uns that even a 2 possession lead can be wiped out by zebras on one defensive possession. Ugh. 01-lauramac2
