Separate G5 Playoff

Not me!

Thanks for sharing 04-cheers

What are your reasons?

Let the P5 decide to break away before the G5 decide to walk away first. That’s what they’re daring the G5 to do, to walk away first.

But in the meanwhile, there’s going to be expanded playoffs sooner rather than later involving IMO at the least an 8 team-playoff of conference champs and a few at-larges. Since they won’t break away they’re going to have to include a G5 representative somewhere in playoffs or have a major legal battle. They can at least pretend there’s a chance with current format but with expanded playoffs I doubt it

I sincerely hope you are right about an 8 team playoff...and I hope it happens in my lifetime.

There’s Five P5 conferences and only 4 slots. That’s unsustainable in the long run. Some years these P5 conferences are getting shafted in their eyes including those years where there just might be 2 teams from same conference in the playoffs

Totally agree. However, I expect the CFP committee in their infinite wisdom would take the five P5 conference champions and the 3 highest ranked at large teams. Of course they would throw the G5 a bone and say a G5 champion could get in the playoff if they were ranked in the top 10 which would happen once a decade, if that.

I could see that no doubt

If Louisville goes undefeated in conference last year they had a shot

They had victories over the 7 and 13 teams in the final rankings

RE: #20 in the CFP Ranking
An 8-team playoff would be off-the-charts incredible, especially if a G5 team was guaranteed a slot. The TV ratings for an 'underdog' G5 football team would likely be incredible. 7 slots for the remaining p5 teams would still make for an extremely important regular season.

I know some people are rooting for chaos this weekend. I am not. I WANT TO SEE AN 11-1 ALABAMA GET SHAFTED. Then, we can always say 'if you had an 8-team playoff, Alabama would've gotten in.'

I can see it happening. With 7 slots for the 5 P5 conferences, there would be two 'at-large' bids (sound familiar?) for the remaining p5 conferences....which would still make it extremely difficult to make the playoffs, therefore making the regular season still extremely important.

Louisville is a member of the club. They absolutely can get in.
