RE: Woodfin's Latest Comments on the Stadium
I wound not worry about the money being spent on LF. It’s needed in the short term even if the stadium was already announced. Even if bell was in charge we would be spending money on LF. We do every year it’s just that some of the things that now need to be done require more funds to keep the facility operating. This is why a new facility is critical for the future.

Again. Only one that is not ponying up is the city and Woodfin is either really stupid or playing a game that won’t work out well for him and the city.

I am pretty worried about the city’s future with this guy in charge. I fear he will bleed the city dry. I hope for the best.

Just read this thread. It's hilarious. An actual conversation going on, but one poster keeps saying the same ridiculous stuff. Occasionally someone addresses him, nut he won't give it up. It's like a toddler interrupting an adult conversation

There is the potential for extreme dangers when you turn things over to those elected by people under 30 years old.

It's probably time for UAB and the BJCC authority to start courting other dance partners. With all the local municipalities surrounding Bham someone might want to invest in something like this and develop an "uptown" like venue in their own city.

Yep. It's the hardest road but this may be the only viable option.

A dedicated forum is needed for this one poster.

The city's high schools don't like Legion Field any more than UAB fans. It is too big for the number of fans and the rent is too much for the schools to make any money for most games. If/when a new BJCC stadium is built, they would probably want to use it too.

Lawson Field at Eastwood is the only present alternative site the city offers to its high schools. The BIR infield site is gone. When I retired in 2000, there was talk of building small stadiums at various city high schools. Has that happened?

Has AL State or AL A&M had any official opinion on using the new smaller stadium, remaining at Legion Field or accepting bids for moving the game somewhere else (like the SWAC championship game)? Has the B'ham Bowl (ESPN owned) had anything to say about this subject? By 2026 when the lower east stands are 100 years old, the facility may be a deserted derelict.

I could be wrong but don't think anyone uses Lawson field anymore.

I attended a game at Lawson this season... it's more uninviting than Legion Field, playclocks and scoreboard didn't work. The sport turf field is in decent condition.
Huffman and Parker have really nice stadiums.

Huffman and Parker have really nice stadiums.

The turf at Lawson Field is what came off Legion Field when the present turf was installed. It is "hand me down" turf.

The financial backing for Lawson Field came from a bond issue passed by the old City Commission in the late 1950s so you can imagine the cost difference for equipment between then and today.

The only reason it even exists today is because a US Steel officer donated USS land and USS provided land grading for the stadium. He also worked out the donation of USS land for the junior college so both are named in his honor.
