Not a bad idea to consider hiring him again.

Notwithstanding his failure at AU, he did pretty good at UTEP and he could probably be hired in the middle of the year to try & shore up recruiting as well as retain current players.

He only did well at UTEP because he still had a pipeline to Memphis recruits from his time with Calipari there. That pipeline is gone.

I considered that. But he may have a pipeline of UK recruits who were not quite good enough for UK but might follow him to UTEP.

I'm not a Barbee fan. I don't care one way or the other. Beyond them getting someone in there to revive the program if they are going to stay in CUSA.

That's on me. I had updated it 10 minutes after posting and for whatever reason it didn't save. It's been updated now.

It is my understanding that the reason a present staff member is made the "Interim HC" is because new hires from outside the program is not done during a season in order to cut out staff raiding by some (wealthy) programs. Sometimes the Interim label is removed (LSU & Ole Miss FB) and sometimes not (UFL R. Shannon), but that is done after the season.

UTEP brought in "Its Rolling Baby" to be interim football coach. And I doubt Cal would object. His staff is already enormous.
But I don't know how likely that is. I don't know if their fans would want him back or if their new AD would either.

I just find it unlikely that either guy they might promote to interim would be someone they would keep him after the season.

They could always bring in Murry. He is unemployed. I mean for an interim. Doubt they would hire him permanently.
