Houston wanted the job as well we just would not pay him.

Not interviewing Davis is not excusable by any stretch of the imagination. Anything about Lunsford you want to say Davis did more for GS. He should have been interviewed out of respect, for him, PJ and Monken even if TK had no intention of hiring him. That bridges is beyond burnt now I would imagine that goes for PJ and Monken as well, especially once they likely let Cook go.

I so hope PJ has a statement.

where are you hearing that we wouldn't pay davis?

We couldn't pay Houston what he thinks he is about to get paid by ECU, and that is true. Assuming ECU opens and they hire him.

current ecu coach is making just over $1M. We were pretty close to that. What's that old saying about a bird and a bush?

I dont think ECU fires its coach as the buy out would be stiff. They could probably out bid us though.

I am thinking Houston wanted about 1M-1.2M and well he should and if we are paying a guy that was special teams coach six weeks ago 650K I would imagine we offered Houston around 900K+/-.

If Houston comes close to replicating what he had done at any of his three previous jobs he is worth every penny.

Bottom line if we could have we should have, if not then OK TK gets a pass. We will never know for sure.

The contract salary alone are not the only deciding factors. Often with these negotiations, the buy out clause could be just as important. No one knows for sure.

As for HC Lunsford, the specifics of his contract have not been revealed except for his yearly base salary and bonuses for achievements.

Don't forget the salary pool for the assistants. Any HC worth his salt was made that way by finding and retaining good assistant coaches and this is one area where GS needs real improvement.
