No matter what happens
Just want to go on record and in all seriousness comment on the fact that David Bailiff is a good man...He's actually an accomplished football coach.... but (before everyone jumps), he has obviously lost steam, touch, perspective, etc.... to motivate his team at Rice. Whether or not it translates into something positive or negative for him elsewhere only time will tell. But, what is evident, is this program needs an infusion of new energy. I don't care who the coach is, even if it's DB, I want to see an upward trend... What I saw this year was "misguided attempts at self preservation" where the head coach put too much faith in his OC.... And it was his OC, whose incompetence led to the disaster that was... It happens... I harbor no ill will to a good man. It's coaching. Coaching is tough.... I just want to see a program that has an energy to it where they think they are supposed to win. Not make excuses... Just be accountable to effort and performance within reason....If a change is made, I don't care if it's a up and comer or a rehash, just change the energy, the mindset, and the approach...

PS: the ABO was 110% real....

Bailiff has been about as successful as anyone can be at Rice. Jess Neely was our most successful football coach, but even he had twelve losing seasons in his 26 years as head coach. Bailiff is the only coach to lead us to two 10-win seasons and three straight bowl games. I'll never forget 2012 and 2013. Amazing years.

And he's the only coach who has had the luxury of playing in a conference so weak that just about anyone could win half the games on his schedule.

Bailiff is a man of integrity. That alone is worth a lot in this day and age. I am glad my son played for him and will always respect him as one of the good guys.

And we are in weak conference, because we did not take care of business in SWC and athletes did not want to come to Rice-- hey we are down to barely winning conference in baseball and squeaking by NAIA teams in basketball.

DB is a good guy, but is clearly obvious that it is not working. Conference/administration issues (and there are a lot of both) is not what got him fired.

"As successful as anyone can be at Rice"?

I bet they said that about Wayne's predecessor. Good thing Wayne is too stupid to know what can't be done.

News flash: we can stop debating the merits of David Bailiff for a while!

Heck, we still debate Todd Graham -- and occasionally Jess Neely!
