A10 hits keep on coming.

And UMass turned down the MAC because they thought it was beneath their basketball program...

The MAC is a permanent one bid conference at this point. The A10 isn’t and as bad its basketball TV contract is, it’s light years better than the MAC’s. The increase in travel expenses for the AD that joining the MAC would have entailed while simultaneously taking a hit on basketball revenue made no sense. UMass is an unimpressive basketball program but joining the MAC as full member was never a good idea for them.

There's no doubt the A10 is better in hoops, but you have to weigh that downgrade against the upside to MAC football versus independence.

UMass BADLY wants to play in the American. They are trying to posture themselves as a proper FBS Indy that has some cache. It will take a decade, but I think it will work.

ACC is properly stacked this year. It may not be that the B1G is all that bad.

Stever may be nailing this one with the year Fresno took the MWC crown. SDSU that year could be URI this year...numbers just bad enough to always be looking in; win and earn your spot or NIT. I'd like to think URI or Bonnie can bounce back (or just see St. Joe's steal it)...it won't matter in a conference with such a bad showing in the non-conference.

A10 went 4-4 last night. ETSU over Fordham is pretty bad. I wish the A10 would have the meet the maker talk with them and their conference membership. Fordham belongs in Patsy.

Did they get the memo that basketball is valued in the AAC? Because, at this point, UMass isn't really good at anything that matters to the conference.

I know they really want the AAC. UConn won't EVER let it happen as long as they're there. There is no reason UMass couldn't "park" in the MAC, focus on its programs and not the conference surroundings, and then look good enough to warrant consideration. But, UMass is rudderless. It has a crew that has some thoughts on where they want to go...just don't know how to navigate their ship.

It's kind of lazy of UMass, IMO, not focusing on basketball. When they're down, you can scapegoat a strong conference. Years like these where the entire thing is average or lousy...it makes me think the people at UMass are full of it. They want people to believe they're like Temple...which is an insult to Temple fans.

the one thing though that is promising for URI is their OOC schedule. It's projected to be the 2nd toughest in the country.

Looking back at SDSU- they were only 6-6 vs the #4 OOC schedule in the country. So the 16-2 vs the poor MWC didn't help them much.

URI is projected to go 8-3 OOC. So I think if they could go 15-3, they could get in with a 23-6 record entering the A10 tourney. But that would require a split of the games home vs PC and @ Alabama here next 2 games. And that would require going the 15-3 in the A10- which will still be tough. And URI is pretty much the only hope right now I think.

It’s too bad the A10 can’t just swap Fordham and Duquesne for Siena and Iona/Vermont.

That upside is very little. And A10 is worlds better in hoops. Going MAC would’ve been suicidal for hoops interest/recruiting.

Yeah, I think Fordham for Iona would be a very good thing. Iona's scores were uttered in there just as much as Fordham's were when I lived in NYC listening to WFAN. It didn't matter if Fordham was in the Five. Iona was close enough.

Is that really an upset? UAB seems to be playing well early this season.

What is your deal with HBCUs? Why can't it be just a bad loss? Is a team suppose to take a fall just because it is an HBCU? In every game a team wins and a team loses, it does not matter what type of school they are. HBCUs are allowed to win games too.

A10 goes 0-3.

Duquesne loses by 12 to this Pitt team, and La Salle lets Towson get one. Nobody expected Davidson to win...probably the best showing of the three, coming up ten short to UNC.
