I was there. We played at the Summit, and we led at the half.

I was there. If I recall, we had to buy tickets separately for this game. We got up early and waited for the ticket office to open because the student tickets were limited. Coach Thompson came by to greet us students waiting in line.

So was I. We have them all they could handle and actually lead in the 2nd half. They pulled away at the end. That was the 92-93 team which had a chance to win the conference.

This was Willis Wilson's first year - Thompson was already at Wichita State.
I worked the game. I think we led at the 8-minute TV timeout in the second half too?

BTW this post has got me thinking - we really need to honor that 1993 SWC team this conference season. A 25-year reunion/halftime ceremony. Brent Scott has already been honored and is at VCU so he wouldn't be there probably. But a few of the guys are regulars or semi-regulars to Tudor (Adam Peakes, Torrey Andrews), and I'm sure we can get others like Marvin Moore and Scott Tynes there. Sadly, Tommy McGhee was killed in a car crash a few years back in Atlanta. Maybe we can get Tony Barone there too and have him undo the curse on the men's basketball team.
And speaking of Moore, he really needs to be in the Hall of Fame. I don't think we've had a better 4-year guard at Rice since him (ETA - didn't bother to check if he is the Hall yet or not - if so, ignore this last paragraph).

I was there at The Summit. It was my sophomore year. I mentioned this game in the bad luck thread.

I was also there. It was a great atmosphere, with the Rice students packing a couple of the lower bowl Sections. Lots of Michigan fans were there as well. I think attendance for the game was somewhere between 9000 and 10,000. Back then we used to play at least one big game a year at the Summit. The year before it was Georgetown (when Alonzo Mourning and Dikembe Mutombo played for them). After the Michigan game Chris Webber was quoted as saying that he was really impressed with the Rice team, and was certain that they would make the NCAA tournament. The season-ending home loss against Texas A&M destroyed that dream.

According to online repositories, it would appear that the 1990 (not 1991) Georgetown game was at the Summit. I cannot find one for 1991. I think Rice did a tournament in Hawaii as its major match up in 1991 (beat a then #25 Arizona State squad before losing to a Michigan State team that finished the season as a top 15 team). Were there any other games at the Summit? I'm not sure there was - that Georgetown one was the first one (I was at that in the band and remember how close and competitive it was), but I wasn't around when Michigan came.

Along with late losses at Fordham and vs a down UT in the first rd of SWC Tournament (before their star player was suspended.)
The game vs eventual reg. season champ SMU in Dallas was probably the best Rice game I have attended in terms of importance, atmosphere, and the game itself. Unfortunately we lost (in OT I believe.)
Definitely was the closest the Owls have been to an NCAA at large bid the past nearly half century. I think that team was a PG away from being really good. Too bad Wilks wasn't around yet.

The old “pee in the bottle after the game” where there is no compensation to the team harmed by playing an ineligible player.
