That's a lot of money. He might bite on that. He would be set for life in three years, win or lose. The way MNF is heading he might lose his job anyway.

No reason the Vols should start making smart hires now. Their brand is based on making splashy hires that turn out badly. This could keep their streak intact.

That's not the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Tennessee fans were hoping for...

True, this is not the hire the Vols we’re looking for. I don’t understand why they aren’t waiting on Leech, Gundy or even Mora. I wanted the Vols to find some who would differentiate themselves by being more offensively minded.

I thought Norvell would have been perfect for Tennessee, as long as he hired a great defensive coordinator, but I read he was extending with Memphis.

I think Gruden would kill it and for 10 million a year and 8 for the staff there would be no reason not too.

Guess we'll all find out so on enough.

At least a couple of folks walking around with protest signs at Knoxville and claims that a number of legislators have voiced their displeasure.

Tennessee looked like such an easy hire to me. Make the obligatory call to Gruden, make obligatory call to Mullen, hire Norvell.

I wouldn’t have a problem with Norvell, but I felt he was waiting on another job. I never believed the Gruden rumors. At this point I’d take Sumlin if he were still interested in coaching. Schiano just isn’t hire folks in K’ville were looking for. Is he even an upgrade over Butch?

I think Sumlin and Butch are a wash. Both are great men, have great families and care for their communities. As far as winning Championships though I don't see it.

Of course I'm not a phsycic or fortune teller and I am by no means an expert. That's just kinda what I'm guessing.

Pulling out the big checkbook is about all that could be done.

It's high stakes gambling.

Tennessee needs an administrator to put things behind the scenes in order more than it needs an Xs and Os guy. The problems are structural.

So Twitter works? Maybe..

Greg Schiano is currently concerned with the climate of the Tennessee fan base and the reaction towards reports of his contract being finalized at Tennessee. The deal may not get finalized.

Its a waste of money so long as Nick Saban is coaching at Alabama.

Better to lower expectations as painful as that may be IMO.

So hiring Kirby Smart was a fool's errand by UGA? And so is Mullin going to Florida? Anyone in the SEC has a tough road in front of them, but the sky is the limit if you're a good enough coach and have adequate resources.

Schiano would be a very uninspired hire imo, and he's only spent four years of his career in the south (two nearly two decades ago, and two in the NFL). Gruden would definitely be better, but for all the buzz he gets at the end of the day he's been out of coaching for nine years and has basically spent none of his career in the college game. A huge assistant budget like that would help him a great deal, but it's playing with fire if you're in Knoxville.

Saban's 66. And if the write-in campaign succeeds, he'll be headed for the US Senate anyway.

Agreed. And they have been that way for decades now. The Athletic Department needs a house cleaning.

Tennessee is further removed from Florida recruiting grounds than UGA or Florida so those are different situations.

I'm not saying not to pay anything but 4 million, SEC average is fine.
