I'm not sure Hueitt is ready for those roles right now.
As for Green, he has some PG skills, but isn't quite ready to run our offense yet. He has great vision and passing, but is not yet ready to face any type of pressure defense while handling the ball. Quite honestly, even many natural PGs struggle at the college level as first year players.
Not every team is quick to full court press ... ODU for instance.
How do you know ODU wouldnt press if the opposing team had no point guard? Of the teams we played, which ones would refuse to pressure the ball handler?
How about me asking you ... How many times has ODU suddenly jumped into a full court press just because the other team took out the starting point guard and replaced him with a substitute off the bench? ODU presses more when the need dictates. Not when the opportunity might be there.
How many times have we played a team without a point guard? I'm not sure.
So no answer then?

I thought he was fine in the few short minutes. I'd love to see it more. It scares the daylights out of me to have Caver out there the entire game (although, from what I can tell, his production is not dropping off late in games). But, you're right, I'll defer to the coaches, since they are at practice everyday.
Sure, I want to see more playing time for the young guys. But, unless I think Jones is trying to play some Jedi mind tricks on the young guys by not playing them, I've got to believe the coaching staff has determined that our best chance to win is by rolling with the 7 guys we've been rolling with. He gets paid to win games, not to give PT to the guys the fans want to see. There is an old saying that the backup QB is always the most popular guy on the roster.
Heinicke was a backup QB during his freshman year and wasn't expected to play either. He only got into the game out of necessity, not because the coach just wanted to put him in to see how he would perform. Once he got the opportunity, he was the starter for the remainder of his time at ODU. To this day he is still ODU's most popular guy football wise.
I totally understand your point about deferring to the coaches because they see the players more than we do and it is their job on the line to be successful. That said, coaches don't always play the best players just because they are the coach and are getting paid. They are human and make mistakes just like everyone else does. Other times it isn't so much of making a mistake as it is them just doing what they are comfortable with. I'm sure that is why Jones doesn't mix up his defenses more than he does - which is very seldom. To his credit though, he is going a little bit away from his norm this season at both ends of the floor, especially offensively. Sometimes you can teach an old dog a new trick, it just might take a bit longer than it would with a younger dog.
Heinicke was supposed to red shirt though. That ship has already sailed with Hueitt. That's the headscratcher
