we're not going to be on your OoC schedule.
OoC opponents are either walkovers, or nationally prominent teams.
with all due respect, memphis isn't there yet.

I have always wanted to keep playing USM. Maybe they could work out a home and home just for old times sake.

One old regional rival wouldn't kill the schedule. We try for a P5, and an FCS every year. A home and home with USM would be okay by me for one of the other 2 games.

RE: Southern Miss vs Memphis in a bowl game
No one cares about USM. (Maybe except for a few message board dinosaurs).
Even when Memphis played them no one went to the games.
Don't believe me, look at the attendance for any USM game in the LB and see how far it deviates from any other conference game.
I'll give you a hint: not much if at all.

Nobody cares about Louisiana Monroe. Don't need to look at any attendance numbers to know that.

Me too.
They really have gotten screwed over the years.
Some of it their fault.
A lot of it not.

...and if you look at attendance numbers, the same for USM.
It's just a fact.
You sub USM for the La Monroe game this year, you thinking 30K are going to be there?

Not in that weather. On a normal day, yes, more would show up for USM than Monroe. No doubt at all. Monroe is garbage.

RE: Southern Miss vs Memphis in a bowl game
Last time Memphis played USM, a raucous 21,305 broke down the turnstiles at the Liberty Bowl to catch the famed rivalry. That was only 16,000 fewer than the home game vs. UT-Martin.
I will say, two years before that we did get 18,848 vs. USM, which was just 4,000 fewer fans than we had the game before vs. Tulsa (22,231).

I went to a few of those games when I lived in New Orleans. Good series for both teams. Meanwhile we have Louisiana Monroe on the schedule.

Might have something to do with how bad we were. If you want to throw out stats in a vacuum, we pulled 10k for Monroe this year. Nearly half of the two games you just cherry picked. If you don't want to play USM, fine, but attendance arguments are silly.

Annnnnnnd....two years before that 24,034 showed up to the Black and Blue game.
Unfortunately, that was less than the home game vs. Arky State (26,376) and Rice (28,235). But it did eclipse the Nichols State game attendance by 1,867. (Probably the number of USM fans that actually gave a crap to travel).

As we all know from the constant posts about attendance on this board, there are dozens of reasons why games do/don't draw. I'm not going to pretend USM wil outdraw anybody else in the G5 by any appreciable numbers, but I'd rather play them than a lot of the slaw that is on our upcoming scedules. If you don't want to play them, more power to you. The attendance argument is just drivel though.

The attendance argument isn't "drivel" if people (again, outside of a few dinosaurs) showed (by attending the game) that is was different from other games.
Message board conjecture is one thing. Actual attendance numbers are proof.

Loser gets Tommy West back? In all seriousness, USM doesn’t want any part of Memphis football this year. The Golden Eagles would get rolled.
