Thinking as a player- I want these guys to have the best experience possible. Some of these guys never flew in a plane before college football so a trip to the Bahamas could be transformative.

The fans worked hard for the program in dark times and I think the players and university (although maybe begrudgingly) have more than rewarded them with a dream season and new facility. So IMO this bowl is all about the team.

Again, nothing wrong with disappointment- but ultimately football is entertainment, which is a privilege, not a right.
The fans were rewarded with a new facility? I think the players are the only ones that get to enjoy that. We are rewarded with helping to pay for the facility and the WHOLE program.

Bahamas are great with one notable exception. 97% of the UAB fan base who really want to travel to a bowl and support this team won't be able to go.

Other than that, sounds great.

Explain how you came up with that stat?
You’ve seen the ticket orders?

Not a lot of people can drop $300-500 on a plane ticket alone 3 days prior to Christmas, then you add in food, lodging, and game tickets and your up to $800 per person at Christmas time.

OTOH, NOLA is easily drivable, has a noon kickoff where you could only stay there the night before and then drive home after the game. Plus the NOLA game is on a Saturday, so likely folks wouldn't have to take work off to make the game too.

I pulled the 97% out of my a$$. No, I don't have access to hard numbers. This is strictly my opinion - as I suspect you already knew.

That said, dfarr interpreted what I meant correctly. Short notice, Christmas time when money is going out for the holiday in addition to normal budget expenses, and the amount of money required to go to the Bahamas times your traveling family size versus a bowl that would require a few tanks of gas and a one night hotel stay - and the hotel could be inexpensive, not a resort hotel.

I think that for the average fan a quick trip to the Bahamas is a much more difficult proposition. It certainly would be for us.

I'm not going to be that upset if it is in the Bahamas. I just will be watching the game from my house in Bham.

This is an excellent point worth repeating. The band fought as hard for this as any of us; so did the spirit teams. They waited through two years just like the football players, hell, look at the majorettes. Those aren't girls, those are women. They worked to bring it back and then they worked on their own part of the program.

Football would not have been restored without the band nerds and spirit groups. They were the first on the barricades in December 2014. They should not be left home while Ray, Smithers and the gang treat themselves to a paid Bahamas vacation.

That's right. There will be a "UAB travel party" of admins - there always is. Don't think Ray is leaving himself off the list, I mean, $862,000 only goes so far.

The Bahama's trip does poke FRW in the eye a bit more than than a trip to New Orleans would. Not that this is the end goal, but it does make for an interesting sidebar.

Ray will just tag along. Which by itself is a good reason to hope for Shreveport.

Walking by Ray at a slot machine and crop dusting him after a good Cajun buffet would be entertaining.

Yep.

But we weren’t the only C-USA team to do it. So Twitter says.

Yeah I thought that every team in the conference had to get passports just in case they were selected for the Bahamas bowl.

Outside of any game in Alabama our closest option would be Shreveport. Might could even travel there in the morning, see game, head home in evening.

I am more interested in trying to find an opponent to play that would be a more recognized name than just a Sun Belt school or CUSA like school.

He should at least give Blazertalk credit for his sources. 03-lol

Happy for our players—especially guys like Shaq and Tevin. They deserve an awesome trip. But stay away from the banana boat!

Another positive: our attendance won’t be under as much of a microscope as NO would be.
