Bahamas are great with one notable exception. 97% of the UAB fan base who really want to travel to a bowl and support this team won't be able to go.

Other than that, sounds great.

Explain how you came up with that stat?
You’ve seen the ticket orders?

If we play Troy in the NO Bowl, I'm there. I would just prefer to play somebody else.

Not a lot of people can drop $300-500 on a plane ticket alone 3 days prior to Christmas, then you add in food, lodging, and game tickets and your up to $800 per person at Christmas time.

OTOH, NOLA is easily drivable, has a noon kickoff where you could only stay there the night before and then drive home after the game. Plus the NOLA game is on a Saturday, so likely folks wouldn't have to take work off to make the game too.

So, In this 97% equation, what is the baseline # of people “who really want to travel to a bowl”?

If it is the Bahamas and the fans are upset, someone better make Ingram the one responsible so he can be blamed and not the Great Bill Clark.

RE: FN Bowl Watch Discussion
Okay, I try not to be pushy or abrasive on these forums, and maybe I'm reading the intentions of some posters completely wrong, but those who are trying to make it seem like a bad thing for the fans to be upset at a Bahamas trip are really bothering me.

First, it costs a lot to expedite passports, buy airline tickets, game tickets, food, and lodging for one person...let alone an entire family. There were a lot of people who donated money they didn't have, purchased tickets they didn't need, took time off work to protest and attend meetings, and all sorts of other things that some of us may not even know about just to try and bring this program back. Our die hard fans have sacrificed to get this back. They shed tears when the program was shut down. They shed tears when it came back. And they have shed tears as this season has marched on with us beating predictions by getting that third win, then bowl eligibility, and ultimately finish the season with a handful of UAB win records today, including the most we have ever had in a season. This has been a dream season for the UAB faithful. We have the most invested fan base in the nation, in my opinion. We're the only ones that had to front the university the cash to put the team on the field.

So, cut me some slack when I'm upset at the possibility that only the second bowl game in our history, and one with as much emotional investment as this one has, might be played in a place that will be virtually impossible for me to get to. Especially when the last one was in an even more difficult location to get to.

That doesn't mean that I'm not happy for the players and coaches. It doesn't mean that I'm not happy for the school. It doesn't mean that I'm not happy for the ones that can go. But after all we've been through, it does mean that I'm not happy that I probably won't be able to go and be a part. I don't think that makes me selfish, and I don't think that makes me a bad fan.

All that said, I'm hopeful that all of this discussion is for nothing and we have something easier for more fans to get to. Either way, I'll be cheering my head off, and probably shedding more tears when we get our first bowl win.

Nice rant. I’m just saying that in the brightest of days, it seems like we go out of our way to find the gray lining around a silver cloud

Nothing wrong with disappointment.

Thinking as a player- I want these guys to have the best experience possible. Some of these guys never flew in a plane before college football so a trip to the Bahamas could be transformative.

The fans worked hard for the program in dark times and I think the players and university (although maybe begrudgingly) have more than rewarded them with a dream season and new facility. So IMO this bowl is all about the team.

Again, nothing wrong with disappointment- but ultimately football is entertainment, which is a privilege, not a right.

One thing is for sure, as long as Bill Clark is the coach, we will have plenty of other bowl games to go to.

Bahamas would be awesome for the players and coaches, but terrible for the fans. If Clark thinks that's what's best to reward the players and coaches for their hard work the last couple years then I'll go with it. Just stinks for the fans to have only two bowl games in our history and neither one in the contiguous United States.

I remember so many years thinking, "I'll take any bowl, the Dow Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Bowl, whatever". Now we have possibilities.

This FN thread is many many years overdue. I raise my glass to the FN Blazers!

The football team should also consider the amount of work the band has put in. Our university will not be able to send the band to the Bahamas just like they weren't able to go to Hawaii.

I'm not going to be that upset if it is in the Bahamas. I just will be watching the game from my house in Bham.
