Agree, and I also follow him. Think outside the box ... MK is an independent contractor who Rice signs to an extended contract to cover Rice athletics. Rice lobbies to have his articles included in as many online news websites in Texas as possible (free web content for them). Rice is basically paying him in a way that is similar to his role when he worked at Rice, but he maintains more independence than he had while at Rice (more like what he had for the Chron). Rice gets a great sports journalist covering Rice’s student athletes and athletics. Just don’t suck, because MK tells it like it is!

Why I liked him so much. He wasn't afraid to call a spade a spade.

That and he was a fine writer. Very talented.

Just read the article in the comical's "book" on the Astros. Great story therein where Luhnow asked Crane re what constraints the GM job would have, Crane ripped a piece of paper from a tablet and handed it to him.


It was blank. Hopefully Tanner will get a similar one. He will know how to handle it.
