I agree with the 4 wins. Has the quality of players returning, and new recruits who will play, moved the bar up enough to equal 6 wins? That's a tough one to believe it's going to happen. The quality of play is stepping up likely higher than the developing players and skill set of the new arrivees, which means better competition. No more Presby or GW, who LU beat often, and Kennesaw and ChuckSouth gave LU all they could handle.

Now it's a new year surrounded by all the FBS impulse, stadium expansion and schedule upgrade. And then it's time to play between the lines. And considering all those factors, 4 wins would be a favorable season. 3 wins less than favorable. 5 wins a very good season. 6 wins and Gill rides high. 7 wins, well that is a very high bar and if Gill achieved that, that would create a lot of momentum for his return. Possible but more than likely not.

I agree, 4 is most likely. I would put the over/under at 3.5. We have a lot of talent with the starters (mostly offensive) but the teams we will be playing are deeper. I think the defense is going to be better mostly because the talent level has been upgraded. I am still worried about Idaho State. I feel like that is the type of game that could ruin the momentum of our move. They are a little more talented than I would prefer to play as one of our FCS games. I think everyone is over looking that game. Indiana State made us look stupid and they were horrible. The difference was the talent level in their conference. Idaho State presents the same situation but they are a much better team.

RE: 2018 Football Schedule
I would give Gill a four year extension with little to no guaranteed money if he got to six wins in 2018. This team is very talented and has underachieved the last three years, primarily due to coaching. We've been recruiting well and preparing for this exact moment. Winning five or less games isn't acceptable after the down couple of years.

This year, we play two FCS schools which should be wins. If we can't get four wins in ten other games, then goodbye Gill. Two are against P5 schools. Four (give or take) made bowl games last year. We must have one of the easiest schedules this season.

I feel this is exactly what McCaw is thinking. I know JFJR likes Gill, but I don’t believe he wants a crappy sour football program either.

Just a hypothetical question for everyone: would you sign a contract for Gill if he went 3-9 but the wins were the FCS games and Auburn?

RE: 2018 Football Schedule
To be honest, no. That’s the same feeling with the Baylor game and the rest of the season last year. We were so excited after the win and then the strength and morality started to dwindle. The win against Auburn would be an incredible win, but the fact that the performance all year had been mediocre should not be overlook based on a momentous event in College football. If JFJR wants to keep the support/fans plus gain more along the seasons, he better not play favoritism. Yes we want the right guys on our team and not just wins, but I’m sure they’re coaches out there who can be a Christ follower and know how to build a program.

I would fire him. There is no excuse for the nine losses if we were capable of beating Auburn. We can't win them all, and I understand there will be losses we don't expect but this is Gill's team he built and has been labeled as "FBS ready" for half a decade now. Put up or shut up.

All valid points, but the exception may be the Indiana State team. They were a better team in a much better conference. They may have been average within their conference but LU got a reality check of playing a good team in a very strong FCS conference vs. playing in the BSC, which I am very glad is no longer the case.

Yep, 3 wins and Gill has gotta go.

Not sure if the under achieving moniker is true. I would like to think that, and maybe on the offensive side, but the defense. If there was hidden, under achieving talent there last year, it was truly hidden. I believe it was poor coaching and less quality and talented defensive players mostly.

I like the hire of Mike Brown as RB coach. That dude was a great college athlete, a good leader, a winner, had some quality time as an NFL player, has had a couple good coaching gigs with good mentors, and I believe will have the attention and respect of current and future players..... plus he’s an LU guy.

I would say their conference is better (Indiana State) but not overwhelming better than the Big Sky. My point was Indiana state didn’t win a game last year but they play in a good conference. Idaho state was 4-7, with a win over FBS Nevada last year, and they play in a good FCS conference. I would say that will be similar to the Indiana State game only with a better team.

Agree on all counts. This was a good hire for LU. As AM said, he was a very good LU player, and a former NLF player and has a good college resume to this point. He was one of the exciting offensive players LU had during this tenure.

RE: 2018 Football Schedule
What do you guys think our strenths and weaknesses will be?

What will be our attendance?

Will the defense be better after the humiliating season last year (especially the second half of the season)?

Offense: the passing game will be the strength and running will be the weakness

Defense: the pass defense will be the strength and run stopping will be the weakness (I do expect it to be a little better this year)

22.4k is what I think for the yearly average for attendance

The defense is going to be bad. Not as bad as last year but still really bad overall. I expect them to be able to get a few stops. That will cause us to be competitive in a lot of games. I think we go 4-8. Respectable showing for our first FBS year.

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone here knows when single game tickets are likely to go on sale.

I too expect the passing offense to be the strength. It has to be with Calvert and the receivers coming back. I think the offensive line will let down the offense moreso than the running backs. I know we have a veteran line coming back but I didn't think they were particularly good last year.

Defensively, I like our secondary but not much else. I just hope we have some guys who step up and have better coaching this year.

I think our attendance will average 20,000 a game. I think it starts hot with ODU around 25,000 but no one else will sell tickets except for the draw of being FBS and combined with a losing season (my projection), the fans won't be interested.

ODU will be a sell out for sure. I think our games against Troy and North Texas will be solidly attended (22ish). Idaho St will be homecoming so I expect 21ish there. Norfolk St will be rough but should be around 18-19. NMSU 21ish for the last game. All six 21.5 I was off a bit.

I believe I saw an email that said ODU Season Ticket holders can now by away game tickets through ODU.
