RE: UAB selected as part of the 2018 Advocare Classic
UAB hasn't had a good basketball coach since Mike Anderson left the building in 2006. Before Coach Clark arrived, we hadn't had a good head football coach since Jim Hilyer was on the sidelines in 1994. Gotta add that we did have very good defensive football coaching during the Watson Brown era until Coach Donohoe got busted and Coach Clay and Coach Neal left.

At UAB we measure our droughts not by years but decades. I think the Foundation is going a long way towards breaking that cycle in football. I wish we had basketball boosters with their resources and passion.

More like in shambles. Those teams usually relied on one star, and couldn't win a tourney game. Patchwork Davis barely got by.

This is worse ask former baller James Ponder I think that's his name. Again.....

4 star players check
Drafted players check
NBA players check
Tournament appearance check
NIT appearance check
Top 25 ranking check
Beating P5's check
Beating top 50 teams check
Getting to come to Bartow check
100 wins at UAB check
Third highest percentage check
Assistants getting heading jobs check
Regular season champs check
Tied school record for wins check
Beat Anderson in Ark. check
Second most wins in school history check
Never lost more than 16 games a season check
Two winning season without double digit losses check

Shambles LMAO
Atleast he got there since he got by.

Great point relied on a star, this team ball is killing us.
Most of the latest tourney wins was one season that was in Birmingham. Haase ain't do half of that so where he went, oh yeah daddy sent him Stanford. Daddy's boy did most of work in two season how where the other two?

You've got some severe bro-mance for Mike Davis. Either that or you're his agent.

Davis had his moments but I can't say he was a good coach for UAB. Neither were Murry, Haase, or Ehsan so far. They all had moments but they were too few and far between to re-build our fan base or our reputation. Every coach (and AD) after Gene Bartow, other than Mike Anderson, has played a part in the slow decline of our program.

I was in a depression the day mike Anderson left, which has really reached its peak lately. Will we ever have another good basketball coach?

I think davis was a good coach, and that was it. He screwed everything else up so badly that his coaching couldn't overcome it all.

This, he was a good coach that followed a great coach. Still remember him almost upset that Billy D. team of NBA guys at Florida. If only he ain't call that timeout and let them play.

We still had our reputation under Davis. That went away under Haase with his soft schedules.

Holiday tournaments are a must to play good competition but I would prefer to avoid one associated with a fraudulent pyramid scheme.
Its a travesty that pyramid schemes 101 isn't taught in high school.

Another reason to avoid them is our record in them in recent years. I thought this year might be the year we could go 2-1. I was very wrong.

MY OPINION: Mike Davis went to the AD and said "This is what BBHC Calipary is doing in Memphis and if we meet his competition, we can have several top players next year". That meant giving Cousins and others that "out" to their NLOI.

When the UAB administration decided not to "meet the competition", the players moved on to Memphis and from there - with Calipary - on to UKY. Perhaps if correct, Davis might have moved on to another school, but we can never know for sure. Many certainly complained that he stayed too long as it was.

This season's team is quite a bit more fleet footed as compared to many other teams in the past.
It just seems that Ehsan is reluctant to cut em' loose. Two of the past three games the team has registered ZERO fast break points. Whats up with that? He has players this year who can be down the court in three or four dribbles, every last one of them, even the tall ones. Why are they just working the ball past half court? That's boring and they are losing.

It wasn't known that Calipari (its spelled Calipari) was doing that, until after the fact. It's more likely that after Cousins decommitted from UAB, he made it a stipulation with Calipari to sign with Memphis and Calipari agreed. There is no evidence that Calipari did it with any other player.

Thinking back about the out letter Cousins supposedly wanted, what exactly was the big downside for UAB in that deal? If Davis uses it to shop them both to another school, we still get the buyout and find another coach. If he doesn't then he probably brings Eric Bledsoe with him. A medium risk for UAB with possible huge upside.

Maybe it was a rules issue. Don't remember it that way but it's possible.

The way people here hate mike Davis, you'd think they'd have wanted him to be allowed to make that stipulation he wanted in his LOI

UAB thought it might be a rules violation and also realized that Davis did not have UAB's best interest at heart. He was using the stipulation and Cousins to get another job. There was no chance that Cousins was going to play here. UAB wasn't going to be played the fool. At that point, they were not looking to get rid of Davis, but this episode was the beginning of the end.

The NCAA did eventually rule it was illegal.

Also, Mike Davis with Demarcus Cousins would have had UAB in deep NCAA violations territory. Kentucky and Calipari got away with a lot with Cousins because it was Kentucky. UAB would not have.
