RE: Graham again
The bottom line though, no QB really had a shot to be overly successful this year with the primitive route running and maybe lack of playmakers at WR. It was interesting to see teams adjust after the SDSU game to the primitive route running. Only so many times you can go to the well. I understand why that one deep route is run, because it cannot be intercepted, but someday three and outs have to be treated as at least half a turnover.

For the 100th time, he's the QB right now because Graham got hurt and Childers makes less mistakes.

This silliness where some of you think Carey was (is?) coaching for his job is completely delusional. He's 44-22 and 32-7 in the league. He's not even close to the hot seat.

And they could use 177-2 in the bowl game and that won't change that.

The wind was a factor but he got outplayed by a true freshman who was completing 41% of his passes coming into the game.

I think childers can develop into a solid QB IF he learns how to hit a deep ball. I just don’t know if he has the arm to be able to do that.

It is worth noting neither Harnish or Hare could throw deep balls early in their career either though.

They are running the same freaking routes they have for the last 5 years. Nothing has changed. Always has been and always will be a super simple offense.

Bubbles, speed outs, deep balls, and the occasional crossing pattern

I'm sure due to Childers inaccuracy they're removing any passes over the middle beyond 20 yards. 5 yards and a cloud of dust with this current offense.

That’s how it’s always been lol.

The only difference with Childern is his inability to hit a deep ball had killed any hopes of big plays.

Next year we're thin at receiver and corner. The only proven wideouts we have coming back are DJ Brown and Spencer Tears. Wesley and Parchment played a little, that's it. Some freshmen or JUCOs really need to step up there. At corner we have Smalls, Embry and Isom. Not a bad group but watch out if one of them gets hurt. Need more depth there.

I think wr will be pretty good. Wesley will have a bigger role. Tucker will see thefield too. Then you have the Robinsons. Someone will step up. But will we have a QB to make use of them? You could have Galloday, Brown and TLL, but they'd get 3 catches a game with this offense.

The secondary, our supposed strength coming into the season--ha---, is a concern. Williams hasn't been as good as I had hoped.

We lose Huff next year, who will replace him? Harbison?

Huff is a hit but the amount of carries he gets and lack of goal line use he is not as big as you think!

We will have Harbison as a number 1 and jones is a nice change of pace but watch out for Nettles and my crazy pick is a bigger stronger Hall getting carries!

Come on guys tell me a spot we will be weaker in next year compared to this year we have none in my opinion better across the board !!!

2015 was our best recruiting class in many years and its showing !!! Just wait

Yea you're right about that. Huff - we hardly knew ye...

The little bit I've seen of Harbison he looks like he could be good.

With a QB transfer we could be a one loss team and get a new years bowl !!

Class of 2015 will carry this team !!

16 top 75 ranked recruits ever are in the 2015 class!! next most top 75 in a class since 2010 is 6 in 2013

2010 2011 and 2012 had a total of 1 top 75 kid LOL

I know rankings of recruits means "nothing" but it does talk to the depth of a class as a whole !! I like what I see next year and the following year !!

Remind us who’s in class 2015 that we should see big things from?

Ok, after I first read this I thought, What? no play makers at WR and primitive route running. Then I realized the source. MD you are clueless. This group of WR's is a very good one. Just a few facts below, again proving people like MD have no idea what they are talking about!!! Please stop posting.

FOUR FOR 100: D.J. Brown became the fourth Huskie receiver this season to record a 100-yard receiving game with 104 yards versus Eastern Michigan, joining Chad Beebe who tallied 124 yards at Bowling Green, and Christian Blake and Spencer Tears, who recorded 160 and 105 yards, respectively, at San Diego State. It's the first time in NIU's FBS history that four different Huskie receivers have tallied a 100-yard receiving game in the same season. In 2015, three different Huskies (Kenny Golladay, Tommylee Lewis and Jawaun Brescacin) each had 100-yard receiving games.

FOUR OF A KIND: NIU has four receivers with 300 yards or more receiving yards. The last time NIU had that many players with as many receiving yards for the season was in 2011 when Martel Moore, Nathan Palmer, Perez Ashford and Da'Ron Brown hit the mark. Spencer Tears leads the way with 408 yards, while Chad Beebe is next with 390, followed closely by Christian Blake with 378. D.J. Brown leads the Huskies in receptions with 35 for 333 yards.

GOING DEEP: Six Huskie players have caught a pass of 50 yards or longer in 2017, another sign of the depth of the NIU receiving corps. Spencer Tears (81 yards), Chad Beebe (73), Jauan Wesley (70), D.J. Brown (69), Christian Blake (50) and Shane Wimann (50) all have at least one long reception with Wesley's 70-yarder from Daniel Santacaterina versus Ball State the most recent.

Great post; great data. What doesn’t show up in the stats is the “short passes” that turn into long pays; all of Childers huge plays have come with the receiver getting the vast majority of the yards coming after the catch (Brown, Beebe, Wineman). These are typically 6-12 yard passes that turn into large gains. These are no less effective, but much different than a deep pass. For this offense to be truly effective (necessary to beat good teams); the QB and RB have to run effectively forcing the D to respect both; and the short passes have to be completed at a high %; doing both well typically opens up a WR on a deep passing route. When it’s there you have to complete it; and Childers has not. We have been good enough at minimizing turnovers, creating turnovers, playing sold D; and getting incredibly timely specialty teams play to beat the teams we should beat.

The secondary has had some bumps in the road in conference play but I bet if you look at the full season numbers this winter the pass defense will still have been above average for the season.

No doubt Huff is going to be missed next year. He is the reason we won at Nebraska and actually beat WMU. Without him those are 2 losses and currently are our best wins.

Jones shows some burst, but reminds me a lot of Hopkins a few years ago. Hopefully he gets better though as we always need depth at the RB position.

It was interesting to see teams adjust after the SDSU game to the primitive route running. Only so many times you can go to the well. I understand why that one deep route is run, because it cannot be intercepted, but someday three and outs have to be treated as at least half a turnover.

They are running the same freaking routes they have for the last 5 years. Nothing has changed. Always has been and always will be a super simple offense.

Bubbles, speed outs, deep balls, and the occasional crossing pattern

Agreed; and this is why the ability to run as a QB is so important to this offense. Maddie was very effective last year because he ran well, hit the short routes, and for the most part hit the open deep pass when it was there. As the year has gone on I see why Graham was Carey’s first choice. He was more than capable of giving this team everything Childers has given us and more. He can run equally as well, he too completed the short passes (almost the identical % as Childers); and he could have only done better on the deep passes. If he did play his last down, we have a void to fill for sure.

They're 8-3 this year and beat Nebraska in the third game of the year. At no point this season was Carey's job ever remotely in danger.

64 yards. That is why he makes fewer mistakes
What was huff's ypc? Over 5? NIU won the game because they dominated the line of scrimmage. Wind at 24 mph. Yeah, running was the right call. Plus he threw for the winning score.

No doubt Huff is going to be missed next year. He is the reason we won at Nebraska and actually beat WMU. Without him those are 2 losses and currently are our best wins.

Harbison is the next great Huskie running back.

Were we conservative because we know that Childers can't throw on windy days? Just about every day is windy in Huskie Stadium. The other guy threw for over 200 yards in those conditions, in his 3rd start as a true freshman, with 2 TDs and no interceptions.
And lost because niu stacked the box.

They lost because they couldn't stop NIU's offense late in the game.

Maybe.

To be a "great Huskie running back" you need to be the #1 guy for at least two years. Harbison has 3 left.

IMHO I'd say Spann was the last "great one". Huff had the talent but didn't get the carries for various reasons.
