RE: Graham again
The good news is that Childers has 3 more years to improve. The bad news is that it seems like he was picked because he is just good enough to win enough games in the MAC for Carey to keep his job for now.

They're 8-3 this year and beat Nebraska in the third game of the year. At no point this season was Carey's job ever remotely in danger.

For the 100th time, he's the QB right now because Graham got hurt and Childers makes less mistakes.

This silliness where some of you think Carey was (is?) coaching for his job is completely delusional. He's 44-22 and 32-7 in the league. He's not even close to the hot seat.

And they could use 177-2 in the bowl game and that won't change that.

64 yards. That is why he makes fewer mistakes

To speculate, I'm sure last years team performance put some doubt into Carey's mind about job security. Not immediate hot seat, but that he can't have another 5-7 team again or he'd have serious concerns. So it wouldn't surprise me that he'd go with a QB who won't give away winnable games. They blew the BC and SDSU games and started off throwing picks against their first conference opponent. It's a rational business decision to go with the low floor guy who can keep you with a winning record and your job secure for the near future. Just observing Carey's conservative nature, it would fit him to not go throw "growing pains" with a QB like santa. No one knows what goes on in Carey's mind(carnival music), but we do know his tendencies a little bit.

Ok guys-

It is my understanding from the guys I talk to that Ryan has thrown his last pass at NIU or anyplace else he just can not throw the ball. Its sad but true he is not able to throw and does not look like it has gotten any better in weeks. He is done.

Now for next year and beyond we need to find a grad transfer or jucco kid who can come here and lead this team next year with a good QB we could win a couple 2 or 3 of those OOC games and run the mac and be in a great position for a big bowl ! this team has so much talent back next year at every level it is crazy !! Name one spot that we lose a kid who is a huge impact that we cant replace I say none at all !!!

We will be so much better next year it is exciting just need a QB to lead it. We don't have that guy on the roster as you all know!! And sorry guys its not MR Hall He in my opinion will turn out to play but at another position not QB or he will leave .

Just my thoughts

We’ve already won without Huff this season, and Harbison does look like a monster in the cam stingily sense. And what improvement are you expecting from Childers? I think we have seen what he can do and that’s gonna be it. He won’t be a passing fear to any team we play. I’m not gonna say Hall isn’t the guy when we literally have never seen him play a single snap, that’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard. With that said, a JUCCO transfer would be nice.

Huff is a hit but the amount of carries he gets and lack of goal line use he is not as big as you think!

We will have Harbison as a number 1 and jones is a nice change of pace but watch out for Nettles and my crazy pick is a bigger stronger Hall getting carries!

Come on guys tell me a spot we will be weaker in next year compared to this year we have none in my opinion better across the board !!!

2015 was our best recruiting class in many years and its showing !!! Just wait

With a QB transfer we could be a one loss team and get a new years bowl !!

Class of 2015 will carry this team !!

16 top 75 ranked recruits ever are in the 2015 class!! next most top 75 in a class since 2010 is 6 in 2013

2010 2011 and 2012 had a total of 1 top 75 kid LOL

I know rankings of recruits means "nothing" but it does talk to the depth of a class as a whole !! I like what I see next year and the following year !!

So you don't think Childers will improve enough?

We lose Huff next year, who will replace him? Harbison?

Huff is a hit but the amount of carries he gets and lack of goal line use he is not as big as you think!

We will have Harbison as a number 1 and jones is a nice change of pace but watch out for Nettles and my crazy pick is a bigger stronger Hall getting carries!

Come on guys tell me a spot we will be weaker in next year compared to this year we have none in my opinion better across the board !!!

2015 was our best recruiting class in many years and its showing !!! Just wait

Yea you're right about that. Huff - we hardly knew ye...

The little bit I've seen of Harbison he looks like he could be good.

Remind us who’s in class 2015 that we should see big things from?

If Graham really is done and Santa transfers, they need to be in the market for a Juco or grad transfer.

I think the Huskies are a few WRs away from being a force, talent is there at QB, just need some playmakers to create space and allow QBs to make plays.

RE: Graham again
I have to laugh at the arguement that we lack talent at WR.
Look at the stats for our 3 true WRs:
Blake 35 catches 395 yards 4 TDs; 3 games with Santa his stats were 21 catches 261 yards 3 TDs
Tears 34 catches 420 yards 4 TDs; 3 games with Santa 11 catches 163 yards 2TDs
Wesley 7 catches 134 yards 1 TD; with Santa 6-129-1 TD
Santa has played in 27% of the games but he has thrown 67% of the TDs to our WRs.

The massive decline from the WR position has little to do with WR talent and a ton to do with a scheme change since Childers has been the starter; and our inability to make the plays (and there have been plenty) when the receiver is open.

Childers can certainly improve, he is only a RS freshman; but the reality is our most successful deep past since he has taken over are those that are so severely under thrown that they produce a PI call. Childers has performed well in all aspects besides this important area; let’s not blame his shortcomings on a lack of WR talent.

That's actually a good point, there is some talent at WR, but utilizing talent at WR with this coaching staff is certainly a huge challenge. One thing no one can argue, the number of open receivers is few and far between in this offense. It always amazes me how similar Carey and Montgomery are in their approaches to their respective sports. Both view offense as evil and to be avoided at all costs because it can lead to mistakes.

What was huff's ypc? Over 5? NIU won the game because they dominated the line of scrimmage. Wind at 24 mph. Yeah, running was the right call. Plus he threw for the winning score.

When a receiver is hit in stride they look open; when a receiver has to adjust a route to a ball that is not throw in stride the DB has the opportunity to react; thus they appear to be well covered when they are not. Go back and watch the last TD Wesley caught as an example. We have plenty of talent at the WR position.

No disrespect to Ryan, but if Niu is serious about not benign embarassed next year Graham can't be a starter

Agree but that can also be said of Childers. We need a QB that can be effective in the passing game and neither of these guys have shown that ability.

Childers is developing and getting better each week, all he needs is some talent around and a coaching staff that doesn't trip him up every step he takes and he will be fine.

Sadly I have not seen the improvement that you speak of. To date Childers is a below average MAC quarterback. Until and unless he finds some passing ability NIU will not compete for a MACC.
NIU has a chance this year to get to the MACC and would be favored to win if they get there with Childers.

Heck, they are favored over cmu at their place.

But your point is still valid, he needs to improve arm strength and accuracy.

This isn't the play ground. WRs don't get ten yards of seperation on the corners.. They get 1 yard. That's open. As a QB you have to throw it where a guy mostly covered can be the only guy to have a shot at catching the ball.
