Would you feel the same way about a bowl game?

I thought we were talking about the NIVC? This would include the next highest teams that didn’t make NCAA. So I’m sure there will be some teams with a Top 75 RPI.

Looks like North Texas accepted the CUSA automatic bid.

America East Albany
American SMU
Big Sky Sacramento State
Colonial College of Charleston
C-USA North Texas
MAC Bowling Green
MEAC Maryland Eastern Shore
Mountain West Wyoming
Northeast Bryant
Ohio Valley SIUE
Southland Stephen F. Austin
Summit Oral Roberts
Sun Belt Texas State
SWAC Alabama A&M
West Coast Pacific

I’m confused to whether this tournament is 32 or 64 teams. An article that mentioned the teams that were being considered for the automatic bids said 64 but the most recent article above says 32 teams.

RE: VB Plays in Post-Season
The first news release in June about the tournament said 32 to 64 teams. During the season, the promos I saw all said 64 teams. I guess that they found out that fewer than 64 teams are willing to pay to play (or fewer than 16 are willing to pay to host) and dropped back to 32 teams.

Owls officially are in - they play in the Texas State-hosted part of the bracket. Thursday night at Texas State, and then the winner of that match plays Friday against the winner of the SMU-Texas Tech match (also in San Marcos). North Texas hosting a 'regional' too.

7 Texas teams in the tournament.

Rice holds a 17-9 record vs Texas State, but the teams haven’t seen each other since 2001.

Texas State is 24-9 (12-2). They lost in the SBC Championship to Coastal Carolina.

BTW Laurie Corbelli resigned today after like 25 years coaching the Texas A&M women's volleyball program? I don't know if Ginny Volpe will be in the mix to replace her, but that has to be a dream job for Ginny and her family.

From https://volleymob.com/texas-coach-laurie...-519-wins/

Quote:Texas A&M finished with a 10-15 record this season and were 9th in the SEC with a 7-11 record in conference. Corbelli’s overall record as the school’s head coach is 519-252. ...

Texas A&M has qualified for the NCAA National Champioinship Tournament 20 times in Corbelli’s 25 seasons as head coach, including the last 6 before missing the tournament in 2017.

Corbelli is the winningest coach in Texas A&M history. (Her jusband John has been associate head coach) ... – the next-closest, Terry Condon, has 180 wins, while Al Givens has just 123 career wins. Corbelli’s career win total of 619 (ed: including previous head coaching experience at U. of San Francisco and Santa Clara U.) ranks her among the top 20 active coaches in Division I volleyball.

While Corbelli is 60 years old, the decision was framed as a “resignation” rather than a “retirement.”

Her husband, John, who also resigned today, came to College Station with Laurie in 1993 as assistant coach. He was named associate head coach in 1995.

From: https://texags.com/s/26298/texas-am-voll...25-seasons :

Quote:The Aggies appear primed for future success even with the coaches' departure, as they will lose only two starters from this season's team and return sophomore Hollann Hans, the Aggies' leader in kills, as well as freshman Camille Conner, the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week.

Several other underclassmen played a significant number of sets in 2017 as well and could improve over the course of a full collegiate offseason.

It took a month, but A&M appears to have found someone else to be their new head coach.

Laura "Bird" Kuhn, a Georgia Tech alum.

Quote:Q: How did your nickname "Bird" start?
A: It started when I was little, ever since I was born. I always had bird legs – long, skinny legs with no calf muscles. When I was born, I was a month premature. It was always "Laura Lu" and then "Lulu Bird" and then "Bird" just stuck. When I went on my visit to Georgia Tech I wasn't really comfortable telling people my name was "Bird." In high school by my teachers and everyone called me "Bird," but to transition in that next phase (I didn't really bring it to everyone's attention). On my visit, my dad kept calling me "Bird" and everyone was like "Why does he keep calling her 'Bird?'" Then it just stuck. Then in college, no one knew my real name – my academic advisors, no one. Stuff would come out and they would ask, "Who is Laura Kuhn?" They did not use my first name.

Q: Even in high school, the teachers called you "Bird?"
A: Some of them that weren't into athletics didn't, but they would hear everyone else calling me "Bird" and it would just catch on. It was a small school so it just kind of happened.
