One plan is to take the large area at the front of Trask and create a huge open area with top of the line concessions, Seahawk gear, and just a large gathering area instead of the cramped area we all have to deal with.

The next plan is a new coliseum in the footprint of the large parking area next to Trask.

I'll take option A

I don't see a problem with either option, really. It's hard to think if we get a new coliseum we wouldn't get option A included. So with that, I'd prefer option B. Plus, if it's true it will be in the footprint of Trask's parking area, it would remain ON campus, which is huge for student turnout. THAT is where schools go wrong. Utilizing off campus sites for sports events, IMO.

How about just updating it with a better concession stand? Ours is pitiful!

I think we can all agree that upgrades are needed to Trask, but a whole new arena would be heartbreaking. N.C. State completely lost one of the hardest arenas to play in when the moved away from Reynolds Coliseum.

That's a bit extreme. We wouldn't be moving to an offsite monster arena like PNC. I wouldn't think in a new arena we'd want more than 6-8k capacity.

The only problem with Trask is the concourse. Expand that as Option A suggest. It would be a shame to build a new arena and lose what is so special. Also a poor prioritization of resources, we don't really need a bigger building.

Well, if the university used it to attract entertainment sources in the off season... it wouldn't be a half bad idea. Generate revenue, and use a portion of the proceeds for UNCW Athletics. Is that legal?

Speaking of venues, this might have been discussed before, but a trusted source told me today the Chancellor is very serious about getting UNCW Baseball a new stadium off campus, which would allow beer to be served.

The major goal with that kind of decision would be to get us a stadium that is capable of hosting a Super Regional.

No idea where in the process this is, but at least this is something our leadership is striving for. Getting this program A "House that Scalf built" is a necessity for our future, and I don't think a simple facelift to Brooks Field is the best course of action there. For Trask, it might be, but not for Brooks.

If a donor steps up and wants a new building, it will be option B....04-cheers

RE: Latest Episode of "The Beat and the Beard" UNCW sports podcast
As far as Trask is concerned, I am not sure about a replacement. It might not be feasible. When Trask was built a very sizeable amount of money came from the state. Hence the classrooms & Health & Phys. Ed. offices on the ground floor. At that time it had to be done that way for the state to kick in - the building had to be there for education not necessarily athletics. If that is still true, we would have have to find an enormously great "sugar daddy" or several lesser ones. chapel hill built the dean dome with donations from a large fan base which in some cases, had very deep pockets. Much the same with state's pnc center. At this time I don't see that happening in Wilmington. I might be wrong but a well thought out renovation of Trask is probably the only option.

Sure, but they can't sell alcohol so it's value as a general entertainment arena would be limited

I whole heartedly agree with this!

This is where big donors should be directed.

We need a new baseball facility if we ever want to host a regional.

Baseball needs a new facility much more than basketball

There would be no government funds involved, so we could do as we please.

How is “The Beard” doing after I played two Harlem Shakes last night? Will he use these 4 days off wisely?

Why is the seating behind the visitors basket where the cheerleaders and dance team stand half full at best?

The Beard constantly trains so as to be in optimal condition for all contests without regard to their frequency. 03-wink

What can explain this teams inconsistency? From laying two eggs on the road, to playing a very good complete game at home?
