We know it was a rough 2017 football season. But that doesn't mean we can't end the year on a high note! In our most recent article, we interview a W&M all-time great: Lang Campbell. It was awesome meeting Lang -- great guy that we're proud to have representing the Green and Gold.
Check out the interview below. LET'S GO TRIBE!

WMSB Exclusive Interview: Lang Campbell
He MC'ed my friend's event recently. My buddy sent me a pic of him with Lang and asked me if I knew the guy in the picture. "Umm, yes I do and I miss him dearly" was my reply.

Still remember that playoff game against Delaware when he led us back from a big deficit (I think 21 if I remember correctly) when I was in high school and the fans storming the field. That was one of the most enjoyable experiences I have ever had at a football game. It was a shame they couldn't win the championship that year.

Lang's Co-Captain in 2004 was Wade Harrell, a walk-on defensive end from Smithfield. That team, with it's two walk-on captains, epitomizes the culture and history of Tribe Football.

I thought it was interesting that Lang deems Shawn Knight the greatest W&M QB of all time. What are folks' thoughts on that?

RE: WMSB Exclusive Interview: Lang Campbell
What a great article! Thank you guys for all you do for the Tribe. I am thankful for you. As for which Tribe QB was the best, that is like asking which child is your favorite? I am not going there. Knight was great, no doubt though. I am thankful for my 30+ years of experience as a member of the Tribe. My own child has had a great first semester and said about the football team, "Dad, think how much it will mean to all the students and the team when they turn this around. We will all remember from where they started to what they became." Sounds like a good motto for all Tribe students over their time at William and Mary. Still probably the best journey of my life to this point and I am content with my life.
I would love to meet some of the 2004 and 2009 team members in 2019 at Homecoming and thank them for their great efforts and the memories they created for each of us. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

From a pure throwing of the ball perspective, Shawn Knight was the best pure thrower I have ever seen. I saw him every day of his career. Practices and games. His accuracy, zip on the ball, and athleticism were off the charts. If he was 6'2" or taller I have no doubt he would have been on an NFL roster. I also saw the first three years that Mike Cook was at WM as well and would rank him up there too.
I only ever saw Lang Campbell play a handful of times but his records, accomplishments (from both an individual and team perspective), command of the offense, and being a Captain makes me feel he is the best ever at WM.
Certainly also in consideration to Campbell, Knight and Cook should be Yagiello, Hakel, and Corley. (from 1980 on as I can't comment before then because I never saw any of them play).

Wade Harrell! Thanks for the reminder on that one. That young man had one of the most exciting plays I can ever remember by a Tribe player.
We were leading UNC in game one that year with a 21-14 lead deep in Q2. The Heels had the ball on their own 40 or near. Their QB dropped back to toss a quick screen on the flank. Wade jumped, tipped the pass, caught it and started rumbling down for what would have been a 28-14 lead just before halftime. He was caught at the 5 yard line and we settled for a 24-14 lead into halftime. Not enough though for the 2nd half, we lost the game 49-38.
Only other loss prior to postseason was at Delaware despite Dom breaking the receiving records and pulling in 4 TDS.

Knight was my favorite. Hakel was great, too, during a pivotal time when W&M really turned the corner and started making a national name for itself.

Knight was the best at playing the QB position from an Xs and Os perspective from what I could tell. He could run all the plays, do the reads, etc. Yagiello was the best pure QB that I've seen, and was the best at doing things ad hoc both in the huddle and at the line. Yagiello was a good runner, but didn't run much. Campbell did everything well and was a great leader. I'd take all three any day.

We had a great QB back in the late 60s who had so much raw talent. He was mysteriously moved to safety during the Levy-Holtz transition so we really never had a chance to experience him running the offense. I believe he floundered around W'burg post-graduation but I've not confirmed that rumor.

It was that knee injury at Louisville that did him in.
