On a similar note... Shouldn't we contact Toyota and bring back Punt for Prizes?

That was the greatest...40 yard punt..have to land it in the bed of the truck (and stay there) for you to win the truck...go get it.

I have twice actually, once was a drawing up here in high school and I won $500 from my dismayed and furious Athletic Director and another time in 2007 at UC but they pulled me when they checked my student ID and realized who I was 03-lmfao.

One time I'd love to get pulled at Lions game...I could really use a couple thousand dollars every now and again. Hell I'd tell them double or nothing if they move it back to 50 and let me get my cleats.

The punting would be much harder for me since I sprial, those sorts of contests are hard as hell when you have to worry about 10-15 yards worth of rotational fade.

You are my interwebs man crush by the way. Don’t tell Rath or mark.

Let the bidding war commence...04-cheers

RE: Will 2018 be better?
The problem with our expectations vs reality this year was that we thought that the problem was simply coaching. I don't think we understood the absolute disregard Tubs had for our program. He didn't recruit and he didn't establish a culture of anything.

The light has been shined in the dark corners of our program now. Reality: We didn't have a very good team no matter if Bear Bryant was pacing the sidelines. Unfortunately, in football, that means a multiple year rebuild because young players usually can't come in and fix things right away. I don't know if Fickell is the answer, but I do know that his question wasn't answered this year. The only thing we found out this year is that our squad was neglected for a long time. I think there might be talent in that locker room, but they weren't developed for years. You can't make that up in 1 year.

Next year should be progress, but more like .500 +/- 1 with better visuals. This simply isn't a quick fix.

F*** Tuberville so much for what he did to this program. It's a crime.

Yeah... But...

The painful reality that there hasn't even been visible progress from this staff, with these kids, on the BASICS of the game. So, I know you're not going to ever get Carter Jacobs to look and play like Darrell Revis, but on things like stupid, ticky-tack penalties...I think most of us would like (and we expect) to see a reduction in those type of things. Especially, when the Head Coach says things over the "bye week" like "We're going to do 'discipline' through the end of the season..."

Carter Jacobs... sucks. Got it. Hayden Moore... sucks. Got it. We have a bunch of slow, stone-hands at WR. Got it. We don't have a PK... Got it. The OLine is undersized and under-powered. Got it. And I could, sadly, go on and on. But you've got to do something with these guys.

It's not so much the record alone that is frustrating. It is HOW they are losing that is really frustrating. Butch went 4-8 that first season, but that team was fundamentally sound...if inept. I'm not seeing the soundness here. Is that the "Previous Coach's"* problem? Yes...but...Coach Fickell has been here now for almost a year.

You only get to blame "the last guy"* for so long.

You forgot a few position groups.

You know how short a playbook gets on both sides of the ball in any sport when you are trying to cover up the fact that nearly everyone you play has better talent on every play? Yeah.

Lack of talent and some of the penalties go hand in hand. What will lineman inevitably do when they continually get beaten by the defensive line? They are going to hold. It has been pointed out by some that the coached DID make adjustments. They are just not the adjustments we wanted to see, and the lack of quality depth proved they did not make a huge difference.

A lot of Freshman and RS freshman replaced juniors and seniors on this squad. There was a lot of bright spots from those young guys but there just were not answers at every position.

The talent problem is definitely a real one. But it only goes so far when you get by 4 TDs by a hapless ECU, who is arguably a bigger mess than we are. Even Hoard & Kelly commented on how ECU looked like they wanted to be there way more than our guys did. I guess all we can hope for this Saturday is to see a team that hasn't given up.

I'll be really concerned if UC comes out that flat this Saturday at home. It was senior day for ECU and UC was already eliminated from bowl contention. A small but enthusiastic crowd got behind the Pirates and they rolled us. Even the best teams often come out flat one game during a twelve game season (OSU @ Iowa) so if there isn't a bounce back this Saturday for the 'Cats questions about the future will remain.

Correct I also was guilty of thinking we had hired a competent coach. Having seen almost a year of his work, I have seen no improvement at all. Total lack of discipline, no in game meaningful adjustments.

I'm still under the impression most people here don't know what a "in game adjustment" is, and they just echo the circlejerk of the board. According to Bearcat Banter the problem with out team lies completely in coaching and we hired a dud.

Exactly. I don't care what the 247 rankings say, this talent doesn't even match up to some of our teams from the 90s. I'd take the talent on the roster on the 1997 team over the 2017 team. Those who were around remember:

-Chad Plummer over Hayden Moore
-Love to have Daryl Royal, Robert Cooper or Landen Smith in this backfield (admit the young guys Doaks and Warren have potential to be special but they are not there yet)
- WR-- Jason Collins Baker and Cornelius Bonner would be top guys if added to this crew
TE- Cogswell couldn't hold Rodrick Monroe's jock.
OL- Can't recall the OL that year, I think Fabini was gone by then... maybe Rosfeld was still around but he was better than what we got now by a mile.
Defense- Hassan Champion, Philip Curry, Brad Jackson, Artrell Hawkins, Tinker Keck... yep all better than their current counterparts
Special Teams- Tinker Keck (enough said)

Jeesus, reading those names (in a thick Rick Minter accent) had me nostalgic there for a minute and hearing "take a bend not break approach" and other Minter faves.

This squad right now is very low on talent. I'm a bit shocked at how negative people are in year one of a new coaching regime which was left with a cupboard half empty and half filled with rot. Next year will be much more telling just as it was with Butchy. Hopefully a nice uptick to a respectable record next season and then year three is when we start really competing again.

I'm hoping for a better 2018, but if we don't show marked improvement next year, then for Pete's sake don't offer Fickell a contract extension with a hefty buyout.

Will next season be better? I wholeheartedly believe so. Will we have a winning record? I don't know. I would be happy at 7 - 6 next year. I just hope the culture that CLF is promoting wasn't killed off prematurely by these blowout losses to bad teams. It HAS to be disheartening, and planting some seeds of doubt.

Some of you guys kill me. Y'all might want to do a Rip van Winkle and set your alarms for August 2020.

Bohn fired Tubbs for one reason - poor recruiting. Bohn is BIG on recruiting. He realized Tubbs couldn't (didn't) recruit based on his two relatively successful seasons. Tubbs meltdown at the end of the season sealed his fate.

As for expecting a coach to have any success with this roster; paraphrasing Rick Pitino "Anne Sullivan is not walking through that door!"

Fick is doing well. It will get better. Whyle and Vann are big time recruits, and kids. The test for Fick will be when he realizes that his friends are not in the correct coaching positions.

To show you how bad the roster is, re-visit this 2015 article on recruiting. Only Copeland is making a contribution today.

That stellar 2015 class was the canary in the coalmine. Copeland and Lewis are about the only two contributing. Think most of the 28 guys in that class are no longer here or will not be here for much longer. Which is not necessarily a bad thing when you have a new staff turning a roster over asap.

Yep...that one right there should be rolling in the two deep with multiple contributors right now you would think. And here's where they are now...

Trail, buried below a mile of depth chart
Lewis, contributing
Copeland, contributing
Holloman, contributing...at Eastern Michigan
Draper, out of program
Mallory, out of program
Clements, "contributing"
Kinard, graduated
Jenkinson, out of program
Bates, two position switches and an injury...
Boose, buried and won't be unburied for the rest of his career here
Wright, contributing
Oglesby, on roster but hasn't shown out yet
Labady, never made it here
Neal, hasn't seen the field
Cobb, never made it here
Ashworth, gone
McGarr, on the OL two deep but hasn't seen the field...so...yeah...
Deguara, contributing
Angulo, may as well not be on the roster
Murray, graduated
Armagost, left the team
Ray, graduated
Minor, contributing
Johnson, contributing
Tongamoa, graduated
L. Wright, gone
Jhavontae Dean, wearing quite a few turnover chains at Miami.

So 7/25 are even contributing to the team, two of them are graduating after this year, 5 others already have graduated, and only 5 others are even on our roster. That means there are only 12/25 rostered from a class that should be Juniors and RS Sophomores which is the core area of contribution. That's horrendous, and a significant part of why our team is in general disarray. I mean hell, look at our OL! Mallory, Armagost, Ashworth, and McGarr were all OL guys in that class and none of them are even here anymore, with the exception of McGarr who may as well not be since I haven't even seen his name on the bench this year.

Think most of the 28 guys in that class are no longer here or will not be here for much longer. Which is not necessarily a bad thing when you have a new staff turning a roster over asap.

https://247sports.com/college/cincinnati...ll/Commits

Can we use your quotation marks on a few of those other ones who are "contributing"? 03-lmfao

I did forget Minor was in that class and was either a 3 year JUCO or redshirted.
