Not just Gundy. That was yesterday. Brohm was today, a few hours before Kiffin's tweet.

looks like Herman Edwards will be the next Arizona State coach

Heard that one of the things Arizona State wanted was to keep both coordinators and that Edwards was open to that. OC Billy Napier is one hell of a recruiter so Edwards would be smart to keep him.

I know. I think this was Kiffin's way of telling the folks in Tennessee that he is not interested either.

So what SBC coach will get the job?

I don't see where nepotism comes into play here. Maybe you are confusing that word with "stupidity". What were they thinking?

Stupidity might be kind.

I'm not understanding how you can take a guy who's never been a college head coach and has a less than stellar career record as a professional head coach and hire him to run your program.

Was it THAT important to keep those assistants around that you had to resort to THIS?

When you apparently thought none of those assistants were good enough for the HC job?

Napier only has three years coordinator experience (two at Clemson, where he was fired, and this season at Arizona State)

Phil Bennett was an absolute failure as a HC at SMU

My guess is Edwards is a placeholder for a couple of years training Napier to eventually take the job. Herm Edwards is a seasoned head coach and is well respected in the field. A young coach can learn a lot from working with him.

I can see why Anderson, the Arizona State AD, likes Edwards -- Anderson was once an NFL player agent and Edwards was one of his clients. But I can't see why the ASU administration would sign off on it.

This might be another case of a school hiring an ex-NFL head coach because they think, "Hey, it worked with Pete Carroll." But Carroll was a better NFL coach, and had only been out of coaching for about a year when USC hired him.

Edwards was just on the Kap & Co show on ESPN 1000 WMVP and said that as of about an hour ago, nothing is official. He didn't say if something was imminent, but as of then nothing is set in stone.

Hopefully the muckety-mucks at ASU will pump the breaks and take a second look before deciding. A mistake on their part could set the program back a decade.

I'm not sure which is worse. That Tennessee was willing to hire Dave Doeren from NC State despite his 5 year record there of 33-30 (15-25 conference), or that Doeren said no?

I can't blame anyone for not being interested in the job right now. They would be coming in to what is likely going be an open A.D. situation, and continued fan and donor dissatisfaction.

Mike Leach is the only coach out there that probably wouldn't care. I don't think it would phase him.

But I wouldn't call Tennessee a dumpster fire at all. Dumpster doesn't do justice to the situation. It's more like a Hillbilly Chernobyl.

Leach met with the Tennessee AD in Los Angeles on Thursday...

... and the Tennessee AD was fired this morning. Apparently Fulmer has been undermining the whole coaching search in order to get himself appointed AD.

That doesn't mean that they won't ultimately hire Leach. It was just an early tell that Currie was gone.

They'll probably try to hire both Fulmer and Leach which could be the equivalent of mixing Nitrogen and Glycerin. Fulmer is a control freak whose Machiavellian maneuvers are well documented. He laid a bear trap for Alabama over a Memphis recruit that led to Tide sanctions and he even pushed Johnny Majors out of the nest at Tennessee.

So this demonstrates that there were at least two factions warring at Tennessee. The old vanguard pushing Fulmer, and the new administration pushing for an overhaul of the Athletic vanguard. Looks like the old vanguard won.

But that doesn't mean that Leach is out of the question, it just means that if Leach does his homework on what it would be like to work for Fulmer he'll turn it down as well. Fulmer is the irresistible force and Leach is the immovable object.

If I were Leach I would wait on F.S.U..

Fulmer, if his "Game of Thrones" play is successful, will hire a head coach who will defer to him. That's not Leach. It might be Tee Martin.

Fisher takes Texas A&M job. He leaves FSU immediately and will not coach FSU against La-Monroe.

Quote:Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher has agreed to become the new head coach at Texas A&M sources have told the Tallahassee Democrat.

He will not coach the Seminoles against Louisiana-Monroe at noon on Saturday. Odell Haggins will be the interim head coach.

They shoulldn't need a head coach against ULM.

But just wow, that A&M is greater than FSU.
