Southern Utah vs Wofford
I continue to see Wofford with a higher seed than Southern Utah.
someone needs to explain that one to me. Look at the resumes. It's not even close IMO.
SUU has a way better resume when you remember the only FCS game they lost (at Sacramento State who finished 7-4) was without their starting QB.
they also have a MUCH better OOC win than Wofford (Northern Iowa) and won the conference title of a much stronger league (big Sky) and have 3 wins over likely playoff teams (No Iowa, Weber, EWU) to Wofford's 1 (Samford).
I know there is the whole "west coast bias" thing going on. But don't be surprised when you see Southern Utah with as high as a 6 seed, and Wofford no where to be seen

RE: Southern Utah vs Wofford
SUU will be a tough game if we play them in the quarters (which seems likely).
They were ranked #4 in the NCAA SRS, behind JMU, NDSU, SDSU, but committee member votes put them at the 8 seed. Very strong team for an 8 seed. Stony Brook may be the toughest unseeded team.

Looks like another challenging road for JMU to win the NC. We have had challenging roads before and won two NCs along the way so no problem. To be the best you need to beat the best.

RE: Southern Utah vs Wofford
Wofford at #7 is a real head scratcher. They were placed #17 by the committee's SRS rankings, which is by far the lowest ranked seed. From a competitive and even regional perspective it would have made sense to put SUU at #7 and Wofford at #8, if they really felt like the SoCon champ deserved a seed.

I think Wofford could give NDSU some trouble. They run the triple option really well and I don’t think NDSU has seen that offense this season. It’s hard to get ready for it on one weeks notice.

Versus says NDSU 40, Wofford 8
NDSU thrives on power football along the lines, and I think Wofford won’t handle the dome well (expect false starts, etc). Looks like a pending blowout to me, but hope I’m wrong.

Wofford has been there before. They didn’t win, but I think the game was close.

In 2012, NDSU beat Wofford 14-7 in the quarter finals. Neither team scored the entire second half.

Yeah I’m glad we’re avoiding having to defend the triple option team, especially when run defense is our “weakness” on that side of the ball, statistically speaking.
I watched their game against YSU last year that went to double OT. Ysu was really struggling to defend them and I think it was one of the higher amounts surrendered by that ysu defense the entire postseason.

I seem to recall a completely botched play by wofford that cost them the game too, or was the difference. It was on sportscenter not top plays for weeks.

still tying to figure out how wofford got a 7 and southern utah an 8.
there is not a single measurable that puts Wofford ahead of SUU. None.
the committee really did a **** job this year.

The Wofford AD is the committee chair. Combined with the UNH gift, it appears that the committee has some issues with being impartial.

I agree this bracket is ****. However, earlier favorable preseason rankings for Wofford and only losing one FCS game helped them. Wofford was in the QF last year, while SUU wasn't even in the field. Wofford simply didn't lose enough games this year.

I think that geography played into the seeds. Winner of Furman @ Elon plays @ Wofford. Almost zero travel cost and you have a group of current/former SoCon teams playing.

Yeah but you can make them an 8 and still feed them to there. They could've looked a round further and realized, okay we can send them up to JMU or all the way out to ND. Well they sent them to ND anyways. Meanwhile a Utah team comes out east.

geography would favor switching them.
you could take that whole block and put them at 8 and have them come to JMU
then take the WIU/Weber/SUU block and have them go to NDSU as the 7.
it should have been the opposite. for sporting AND geographical reasons. That's why the committee did a **** job this year.

I don't think that makes any difference with regards to the 7 and 8 seeding. In fact, you can make the opposite case that Wofford-Elon-Furman would be easier travel to JMU if that bracket had been set as the 8-seed while Southern Utah, et al, would be easier travel to NDSU if it had been set as the 7-seed.
My theory is that the Wofford AD didn't want any part of the Dukes if they get to the quarterfinals.

Aside from UNH, hard for me to buy other conspiracy theories this year. Choices were terrible and matching four "southern" teams in rematches when flipping them would have still been geographically fine is moronic.
But personally, I'm really excited about the possibility for SUU and SDUS to come to Bridgeforth just because it's exciting to see teams we'd never normally get to, especially teams with exciting offenses like those two. Pretty much what many of us have been clamoring for OOC for years. Also, whatever they say, that's a tough/long trip for both.
All that said, Dukes need to be entirely focused on Stony Brook.

Agreed, stay focused on the first game in front of us. SUU and SDSU is exciting but lets get past our first opponent.
