The big knock against RS from JMU fans is that he won't take open shots when he has them. I'm not sure how, but JJ must have something to do with this. (sarcasm)

We have a population of ~1.4 million in hampton roads and roughly ~200,000 of them are directly related to the DoD as either working for or family here because of the Military. At least that's the last numbers I recall. I might need to google that.

We had a chance to change that by drilling for oil off of the coast and people voted it down. They were convinced by the opposition that a day at the beach would mean looking out at oil wells. How ridiculous. I can tell you, the gas and oil industry is one of the most lucrative in the country if not the world. And we might have been able to get a pretty good size chunk of that. It's been propping up the state of Texas and especially the cities of Houston and Dallas for generations. Is there risks? Of course, but then again there's bigger risks in staying stagnant.

The money was not going to be there for Virginia. Feds would get most of it and oil reserves were predicted to be minimal. Had little to do with the beach, more to do with the inequitable distribution of revenues.

It was nothing but politics that got in the way and blocked it. If the last administration had wanted to do the exact same thing, then it would have gone through without question.
