There is still a chance that ndsu gets the 1 spot... they beat a number of better teams than we did - our ranked wins mostly ended up unranked
The committee had us ranked number 1 and when NDSU lost dropped them down to 4 or 5? Not sure how winning their next games would be enough to put them all the way up to number 1. I would say they would be more likely to get 3-4 seed than a 1(not that I'd agree with that). I'd say they are locked into number 2.
If we were both undefeated I could totally see NDSU passing us for the 1, but that loss destroyed their chances of passing us.

Well, i mostly agree.. just saying there is a chance... didn't they move a one loss ndsu to the 1 over a 0 loss (weak ass) shsu last year?

I don’t think that will happen unless NDSU somehow has a higher SRS rating. And based on what I understand of SRS, don’t believe that is possible with our FBS win and NDSU’s loss.
SRS does have a SOS component, but it isn’t sagarin, its based on opponents wins and losses. If you beat SHSU, thats as good as beating NDSU with SRS.
People also forget that JSU and UCA are undefeated in FCS, their only loss is to an FBS team, which should help their SRS score. This may give the committee a reason to seed them ahead of NDSU this year.
Theoretically, each committee member can vote however they want ... in practice is highly improbable for NDSU to get a 1 seed, more likely they drop to a 4 seed, though conventional wisdom would slot them at 2 or 3. SRS for the top 4 will likely have some influence here, though they only publish it after the bracket.

Would be a crime to raise the Bison above JMU. They should get the 2 seed I would think tho. They played 7 teams ranked in the top 25 at the time of the game and went 6-1. IMO that looks better than either JSU or UCA.

By the way congrats to JMU on the excellent season. Good luck in playoffs ( unless playing NDSU of course )

Offhand I'm not sure all of NDSUs still are ranked either but still pretty impressive. Beating 5 is very impressive too!

Don’t think ranked at the time should matter. There were ranked at the time Sept and/or Oct) teams who didn’t even finish with winning records- Ex out of the CAA 4-7 Albany and 5-6 VU. The polls (esp Coaches) were absolute jokes..
It should be how you fared vs ranked at the end of the season, or vs other likely playoff teams.

“ranked” opponents won’t matter outside of the Committee’s rankings. They don’t pay attention to outside polls. Its only the committee’s own rankings and SRS that matter when they evaluate how strong your schedule was. Beating a team that was “previously ranked” in the Stats or Coaches polls (or top xx Sagarin) is meaningless for playoff purposes.

Even if NDSU went undefeated, I would not see them passing JMU. We have a 1A win on the road in impressive fashion to go along with no one other than UR being within a touchdown of us the entire season. While the bias is to say that the MVC is better than the CAA, there were no games between the two leagues nor common opponents to provide any statistical data to support that one league is definitely better than the other. It is simply opinion at this point.
Both teams would have been worthy of a one seed, but JMUs undefeated season would have trumped NDSUs with the impressive win over the 1A as the tiebreaker.
